Alright, I've grown a little tired of making my own synths, and music- etc., etc. I've watched a couple of Ravine's youtube videos and instantly felt that that's what I really wanted to do along the lines of music. But where in the world do I begin?... Here's my equipment list:

  • MacBook(white)
  • Axiom 49 MIDI keyboard
  • M-box 2 Pro
  • And a few sequencing programs such as Reason 4.0...

I should be looking into some turntables now, right?... Thanks in advance for any help. :D

If you want to produce music, turntables are unnecessary.

If you want to be a DJ then they're rather useful.

....so, what exactly do you want to do?

He's asking where to start out with I guess.

He's watched Ravine, and wants to do what he does, so he wants to Mix.

If you want to make your Laptop apart of your set-up (Like Ravine), you're going to need to get Serato Scratch Live, or any program like it.

This lets you hook up the turntables you get into the hardware that comes with Serato Package (for around $550 USD last time I looked) and your mixer into it as well. This lets the program you would install onto your computer to let you play your digital files on your turntables. Don't worry, the Serato package gives you the "Control" Vinyl as well to use as if you where playing real Vinyl.

The most basic things you're going to need are:
  • Turntable(s)/CDJ(s)
  • Mixer
  • Serato Scratch Live, or any program like it (If you want to play Digital files on Vinyl)

Then all you have to do is practice.

~~Edit~~

Having the Turntables doesn't mean you need Serato Scratch Live (or any program like it) to play any kind of music. You can always go with the best, and get some real Vinyl.

Go with what suits you best.

Yes, this is pretty much what I was asking. :P Thanks. :D
I'll have to see if Serato is available for Apple.
Looks like I'm gonna have to save up for a little while again. Oh, the agony >o<

And Ionosphere, I know all the equipment I have is for producing, I was just saying it for the heck of it. It's semi-useful information, I suppose. ^^;

Do you want to produce music ( Make your own songs ), or to mix music ( what DJ Ravine does, mix one track into another and create a set ) ?

PS : Ravine does not compose music. And if you're new to all that stuff you should also know that a remix and a mix are to different things. Well I just wanted to mention it, cause I know a lot of people who think these two things are the same.

I'd like to mix music. I know he doesn't compose. :P
I've grown tired of sitting there and creating synths for my own unique music...
I see a lot more excitement in what Ravine does. :D
((sorry if I sound noobish- quick response, I'll be back in a little while.))

Ditch the macbook and just build your own computer. Trust me, it will be cheaper (as long as you build it around the same performance range of the macbook).

If you need a portable solution then the macbook isn't so bad, but depending on how you configure everything, there would still be other laptops out there with the same performance (or better) that cost less.

Well I already have a MacBook, so what's the use in that. o_O
I see where you're coming from, PCs seem to be better mixing wise, but this doesn't seem to be much of an option in my case.

Oops sorry, thought your "equipment list" was a list of components you were going to buy.

I should change the topic name...
I suppose I really don't have the right equipment.
