I am trying to decide if I should get Sonar or Cubase (latest versions). So far I've been able to try out neither. I couldn't get any sound on Sonar because of my shitty sound card, and a trial for Cubase 4 doesn't exist (probably because they have their knickers in a twist over piracy it looks like ). Price doesn't matter, I am eligible for academic discounts on both.
What are your thoughts? (I also plan on returning my 1010LT for something else, definitely not from M-Audio)

Both are good but I prefer Cubase. It's easier to use IMO.

That's what I've always kind of thought but I'm not sure.

Cubase 5 is the latest version.
I was asking myself this question a couple of months back and I went with Cubase. Makes sense as it's easier to get help with so many people using it.

Oops sorry.
So far all I've really got is that it's easier to use. What are the benefeits of getting Cubase 5 over Sonar 8? I want to make sure I make a good decision this time.

Ive got Cubase Studio 4.
when I think of the days I used to crank stuff out of SX2 rewired to Reason 2.5 and then compare to my current setup(cubase studio 4.5.2 rewired to Reason 4.01), I realize the possibilites are endless. Cubase 5 has a buillt in pitch correction in the audio editor, so that would save you some money by not having to get an "external" vst for it.

Hi,
I have looked at the earlier verson of sonar and although it has alot of extra fancy stuff that cubase dousnt cubase is far easier and quicker to use, all the functions for audio and midi are very easy to setup, and automating your synths and other vst's are very straight forward, i wud always choose cubase over sonar, however i find sx3 easier to work with than any of the newer versions of cubase.... hope this helps :)
