Hi all,
I've been listening to hardcore now for a few years and have built up quite a collection of mp3s and i've recently decided to look into mixing. I'm not really in position to get some decks, however i do have the following gear that may or may not be of some help:
- MIDI input keyboard / guitar
- Cubase 4 / Acid 5.0
- Crap load of musical experience. 7th grade pianist/double bassist as well as a lot of experience on bass guitar / acoustic. Gigging locally on jazz bass. Just a good general background of listening and playing a lot. Just never really dipped into the electronic stuff

My main question is... where the hell should i start? I mean i've got no idea how to create sounds, effects, percussion, take apart the music files or anything :S Are there any good resources or programs that would act as a good starting point, but also allow me to progress to much higher quality stuff?

Thanks!

I think you're getting mixing/DJing and music production mixed up...

The stuff you have there will help you produce music and from your description I assume this is what you're wanting to do. To learn about making sounds you need to read up on Subtractive Synthesis. Nearly all people making Hardcore use samples for all their drum sounds.

You can't really take apart an mp3. You might be able to sample something from it at certain points of the track that aren't too busy.

Download Audacity for free.

That will help you to chop samples etc up.
