Ok, so i recently upgraded my pc from XP to Vista. I still have XP - two seperate things but on the same pc (dont ask me how it works lol) as last time i used Vista i ****in hated it! Ive been giving Vista a second chance, but there's always been this problem with some files. Been annoying me for the couple of weeks ive had it but now i need to sort it out.
Ive tried to play Hardcore Underground 3 on my comp using windows media player and some tracks will play fine, others just wont. A window comes up saying "An audio codec is needed to play this file". But like i say some tracks will play just fine while others wont, yet theyre all the same file type. Same with other files and tracks i have on my computer. They worked just fine before i upgraded to Vista and do still work on XP. I would just go back to XP but ive now got too much stuff on to go switching back. Also some tracks on CDs wont work in iTunes and i cant iport them, same with VLC and every other player i have they just wont play!
So please, anyone have any idea what the problem is and more importantly how i can fix it?

hardcore underground 3? I thought that was only releases on CD.
anyways, in what format are the files in? usually you wont get a codec request on mp3 or wma, but if they are aac/mp4 (bought from itunes for example), then Windows Media Player doesnt play them without proper codec.
If you cant play Audio-CD tracks, then the CD is propably damaged

Hadcore Underground is on CD. Its not just the one cd that wont play either. Ive tried loads none will play all the way through, and theyre brand new so i doubt theyre damaged.
All the files are either mp3 or wav (or cda in the CDs case) that wont play. but not ALL mp3s or wavs just some.

cda's doesnt work if they're on the computer :P
If they dont work, they're obviously corrupted. And no, EVEN brand new CDs can be damaged. Havent happened to me much, but I had to send 1 or 2 DVD's back because they skipped. There where no visible damaged, but you dont need visible damages to be broken.

If it's the CD, then Vista doesnt seem to read the data properly, new dvd-rom or old?
I run both XP and vista on this computer (it's called dualboot btw :P), and I havent had any hardware related problems yet, especially not with audio.
but I installed codec packs on both, so I can watch anime properly.
I dont know if you have updated to Service Pack 1, but I would recomend you did, it does fix alot of problems vista had in the beginning
