After seeing the amazing DJ Mob thing on youtube......How do I hook my electric guitar up to my computer so that I can play it, record it on my computer and drop in it FL?

Yeah id like to know this too. Is it just a case of hooking your guitar up to the line in of your soundcard and recording in audacity or summat?

The simplest way is to just connect a jack cable to the line in on your computer :P It's not a particulaly acceptable way of recording (the signal would be weak) but it works.
If you wanted to get a more proffesional result you'd need a decent sound card (assuming you don't have one), and a Direct Injection box.

Nice one mate will look into that. What connectors/cables would i need for the output of the DI box to the Soundcard? Or is it the other way around Soundcard to DI :S

My set up is this:
Computer USB connection----- > Soundcard
Soundcard has RCA sockets for input and out put
I then use and RCA cable to go from the soundcard to the decks/monitors for example.
But obviously a guitar doesn’t have an RCA input, it’s a 1 socket phono lead, but my soundcard only has RCA…..
Can I buy a cable with one end RCA and the other a normal phono jack? Would this work?

You could do what im doing as a temporary measure....
1/4" Phono from Guitar to 1/4" Mic Input of mixer. RCA from mixer output to Jack input of PC. The sound quality is piss poor though lol, but as i said tis temporary till i, first, get a sound card and second, get a DI box.
Btw will a Direct Input box record as mono or stereo? Will i need 2 for stereo or just one, that might sound stupid but im just looking at this at the minute http://s3.amazonaws.com/samsontech/related_docs/S-direct_ownman.pdf Down at the bottom of page 6 its tells you how to record a stereo keyboard and uses 2 DIs so im sort of confused lol

Oooo wicked, nice 1 , I didn’t think of that. Im going to try that when I get home, sound quality might be better for me cause Ive got a soundcard. I can go guitar to mixer, mixer to soundcard, soundcard to computer : )

Mono, because guitars are mono (obviously), although your computer does the recording, not the box :P Although as stated, the box is mono. You don't NEED a DI box to record your guitar, you just need one to get a good signal. If you were going to go to that length though, at the same time, you'd need to get a decent sound card otherwise the increase in quality would be totally lost in the recording proccess. What a DI box does is change the impedance of the signal.

Er.... i didnt know that guitars are mono My guitar seems to be a lot... wider? Coming through my amp so i never thought it would be mono. It may just be because of the reduction in sound quality as a result of doing it the way im doing now, but if its still like that after using a DI with a decent sound card like you said i suppose i could just a stereo enhancer and/or some reverb. Ill have a look about for a good soundcard and DI. Thanks again mate youre a massive help!

Guitars, like vocals, are just a single sound, you hear them with both ears but they are still mono. There is no need to make the sound stereo, it definately has no relation to the quality of the sound. You hear a guitar in mono, so it shouldn't sound any worse recorded in mono.
