Im not sure of where to place this so if it needs moving, thats fine.
So I was doing a mix the other day and as im beat matching 2 songs together, the kick of the songs seems to just drop out when they are in sync, if they get slightly off then the kick comes back, am i overloading something in my mixer and is this a really noobish mistake to be making?

It's called phasing. When two of the same frequency clash, they cancel each other out.
Cut the bass man, that's what it's there for.

Congrats, phasing is the sound of a good DJ, be proud of it because your beatmatching perfectly :)
If you want to get rid of it just turn one of the low EQs down on one of the channels :)
