Okay, something I've noticed and debated about many-a-times is about how the modern 'UK/Uplifting Hardcore' is referred to as 'happy hardcore'.

I've noticed that it is infact mostly Americans who refer to it like this...

They claim that they'd never call it UK or uplifting, and are adamant that it is not called it.

Is it their lack of experience or familiarity in the genre that causes them to do this? Happy hardcore for us was a strictly British and European genre from the 90's, right? Why would newer stuff, with a new genre name be called 'Happy hardcore' still?

Is it because of this site or what?

uk hardcore is such a gay name... yet orbit 1, auscore and all the other aussies get labelled as uk hardcore?? wtf... that isnt uk..

to me its happy hardcore.. it still has a happier side to it even tho it sounds completely different to the 90's sound of happy hardcore.

Americans don't listen to Hardcore, unless you mean "Hardcore Punk" which is a stupid form of rock music. The ones that do probably call it that because nothing new has hit them since the late 90s, when it WAS "Happy Hardcore"...

theres also people in the uk that call it 'HAPPY HARDCORE' because they dont actually know what it is, if its not pop, rock, hip hop or rnb, to them its happy hardcore.

OPEN YOUR MIND AND EMBRACE THE HARDCORE :)

im with most everyone else, have to disagree here, watching these forums i really dont see anyone like that, just sounds a mis-perception to me

you are 100% more likely to come across an american calling it techno before they will be "adamant" that it is happy hardcore and not UK hardcore

i have to add though... So What?

in my eyes if they are calling Hardcore "happy hardcore" - fine - thats 10000000000 times better than just refering to any sort of dance music as "techno"
happy is a state of mind, next someone says happy hardcore, just think of them saying its hardcore that has quite a happy vibe!

I do often see Americans and Canadians refer to upfront Hardcore as Happy Hardcore. I personally call it, upfront usually, i think Happy Hardcore's a bit misrepresentative. Most newer stuff labeled Happy Hardcore is anything but, both parts of that title are misleading given the sound of the "Hardcore" being produced at the minute. I think Upfront is a much better title tbh, but atleast if the yanks are calling it Happy Hradcore they're not calling it bloody techno

i rarely see anyone do it on here. but it's always on youtube... they always dismiss 'hardcore' claiming it's actually 'happy hardcore'!
