Didn't that have to do with him playing some sort of DnB set, and there was some sort of internet backlash or something?

Not if you're a pedophile. :-O

Sorry. That was really a tad unnecessary.

Because some E'd up kandy kids whined about too much breakbeat hardcore in his set at a high profile event. DNA really was a pioneer of breakbeat hardcore, and a lot of the stuff that he was doing 8 or 9 years ago still sounds good next to the stuff being produced now. I guess the problem was that they just weren't ready for it.

-There's no kandy kids in the UK
-I have the recording of that set and it's closer to dnb than breakbeat hardcore
-That set is ****ing boring, and most people that have heard it seem to agree with me

Why did something on the internet do this much damage?

I missed it but... a thread on a forum seems a little overboard to do so much damage. Anything classified as an 'internet backlash' should be re-classified as a 'joke.' That's why so many of the top producers don't go on these sites, because they don't want to read whiny kids bitching about how bad they are when they know they are excellent producers just doing what they do.

I need the whole story though. Either way I am sorry to both of you that this happened.

-Who cares if they're actual kandy kids or not? The end result is the same. Just one set wears stupid jewelry and the other set wears stupid pants.
-I have the recording of that set too, and it sounds like modern breakbeat hardcore to me.
-I thought it was brilliant. Well ahead of its time, and probably not the kind of thing to take to a happy hardcore party with the kind of genre-specific closed-mindedness a lot of ravers seem to have, but definitely not "boring".

- taken a while back on a night out in truro (UK) at L2 spazing out to Lisa Pinup
- i also have the set and the zip he released of the tracks "the lost tracks" sounds just like nu skool breakbeat hardcore, though granted some of the tracks in the mix he used were very DnB
- set isnt (that) boring, and you're the first one ive seen whine about it in all the topics ive seen on it. just to add..heres the original thread from when the lost tracks were first released..nobody's complaining about them either..

furthermore i have to agree with audiox, way ahead of his time and from what i read back then the whole thing was blown way out of proportion and the crowd reaction wasnt as bad as some of the naysayers said it was. sadly people will still pay more attention to the whiners than the people who dont.

**edit**
actually have a few more from that night lol there was this old guy who turned up and was bouncing around with everyone else - also the same night i got my hard house nation cds signed...

Funny how half the people screaming 'NAME AND SHAME' bottled it and started backtracking when they found out it was Impact!

Anyway, not particularly interested on giving my opinion on it now it's so far down the line.

On the SV/DNA situation though i remember the time well. In fact that event if i remember correctly was one of my last ones before a 4 year break. It was only when i came back to 'the scene' later that i realised what a fuss it had caused. Hardcore was on it's arse at the time and anything different should have been welcomed, but sadly wasn't!

Really enjoyed reading that old thread again too!

1) that's not a kandy kid

a kandy kid is wears pony bead bracelets. that's just a douchebag with highlights in his hair. even if you had found ONE in a rave in the UK that would prove nothing.

2) I've heard tons of big name DJs say it's crap in person, but I won't name them because they haven't said it publicly for a reason

3) What was ahead of its time? I hear no production techniques or musical techniques I haven't heard countless times before in that set.

Nobody is complaining on ush because the only people that would care enough to download it wanted it or they're bum lickers that are simply saying it's great because of the situation. OMG it made someone quit so it must be amazing!!!111ONE

You can like it but I'm sick of people saying it was the best thing since sliced bread. It cleared the floor.
