Hey guys. I'm going to be a DJ soon, and as someone with no job, I picked pretty cheap parts for my setup (still in the cart, not shipped yet). I wanted to know if these were decent for a beginner's setup.

Stanton T.90 Turntables
Gemini PS-424X 2-Channel Mixer
Rane Serato Scratch Live (the bundle with the conection box, vinyls, and program)

Also, is this the forum to find out the latest and greatest hardcore music? I'd like to try to just mix new songs rather than giving everyone what they've heard a million times.

Thanks,
DJ Sakari

Well let me first say welcome to the hardcore scene.

Your setup:

The Stanton TT's (Turntables) are always a great way to start out. they are all around good tables, direct drive, key lock, etc.

Im not sure about the Gemini Mixer, if you going to just be mixing then its a cheap mixer to start out, but if your planning on learning stuff like scratching, im not sure how well the fader is going to hold up.

Serato is always a great choice for time coded software, but if u have not bought it yet, check out M-audio's Torq, or VDJ, they are a bit cheaper.

This would be the place to get new hardcore, just look through the HHC store.

not to sure about ur last comment about mixing new songs together, im not sure what ur looking to do excatly.

Hope that helps!

Hey man, thanks a bunch. About that last comment, I meant that in my mixes, I want to stay away from anything over a year old, and just include new songs.

I subscribed to the stores youtube channel, and found a bunch of music I know I'll be working with.

About the programs, I do use virtual dj at the moment without TTs. How much better is Serato, because I heard that it's THE program/kit to get for DJs who use control vinyl.

yes u have heard correctly, it is THE program to have when at the clubs, but i have used it in the past and I have found other programs like it, like VDJ, that work just as well and are a lot cheaper. Personal I use M-Audios Torq, that was only $300 compared to the $540 you pay for Serato.

Edit:

I see that your from New York. If I could make a suggestion, I see your trying to make a job out of being a DJ, I am doing the same thing, but to make any kind of money you might want to mix mainstream music for parties and such and mix Hardcore on the side for fun. There is still a growing hardcore culture in America, but its not big enough to main stream yet. (Not trying to discourage you at all)

I'll have to think about it. I still have five days to wait before my ebay auctions are over, so I've yet to get some cash. If my budget fits Serato, I'll probably get it.

You are only limiting yourself, your sound, and your artistic vision. While spinning new tracks is good for the club scene and all, don't tell yourself to "stay away" from older tracks. Everyone loves a good classic and most of these "new tunes" don't even compare to how amazing hardcore sounded between 2000 & 2005.

*edit*
And don't forget Oldskool Hardcore ;)

Yeah that makes sense, I didn't think of it that way. Thanks

Seriously. Even if you're in the top 100 hardcore *PRODUCERS* in the world you probably can't live off of it.

I know, I said "alright?" because I never said I wanted to make a career of it.

I'm also not going to be limiting myself to Happy-Hardcore. I'm going to try to master myself in every one of my favorite genres. Hardstyle, Progressive House, HappyHardcore, and Electro House.
