I've asked friends who listen to chart music "Why don't you listen to the older stuff" the answer i always get is "Because it's sad or out of date" & "I used to like that when i was younger but i hate it now"
To me this is different with Hardcore. I can easily go back to 91-92 & the choons still sound fresh to me. They never sound dated. It's like Hardcore doesn't age. OK i don't listen to chart music at all & haven't since i got into this scene in 1990. I listen to a lot more older stuff now as the majority of the new stuff is piss poor. It seems to sound better the older it gets. Anybody else feel this way?

I agree. I'm not clued up on chart stuff but as far as I can tell people who like chart/pop music listen to what they are told to listen too so if it's not on a shite music channel 24/7 then they won't listen to it.

The majority of the brain-dead general public, yes. I do listen to some chart music however, but it has to bloody good.

@Spoox: That's definitely the case with Old Skool core. It doesn't age, the production quality isn't great obviously it's not going to be but the musical content will never grow old. Shame it's the complete opposite for today's Hardcore. It may sound pro quality but it gets boring very, very fast.

The response of "old music is sad" or "out of date" seems like a very immature attitude to have imo. I didn't even think like that in school. I was always blasting out my dad's Queen tunes. But then again most pop music fans aren't deep ,music fans. They don't care if a song is classic or it gives them tingles down their neck, all they care about is "it's got a good beat". ****ing hate it when people say that. The song has a good kick drum? WTF? When they actually mean everything about the song. Beats, bass, melody all encompased in this one word, the "beat". Drives me mad lol.

I love some music from the 40s thanks to Fallout 3!

Also, love myself a bit of oldies from 70s-90s.

if people dont like music that they used to listen to its because they were listning to bad music and have grown up. good music never gets old. to me that is the deffinition of a good song-if it can stand the test of time...that and personal opinion of course
