I couldn't be arsed to read through all the threads so forgive me if someone's already written this.
I personally think it all depends on when you came onto the scene, and that will dictate what you call it to a certain degree. At the end of the day it's all Hardcore, which I believe actually comes under the umbrella of Dance music.
Anyway, I've been around from the very start of 'Hardcore' and so I thought I'd let you how folk from my era tend to catagorise it, and how I understand it.
Music was called hardcore, some called it rave, and now it's classed as oldskool.
This then developed into several genres; Happy Hardcore, Jungle (which became drum 'n bass) and Techno (inc gabba)
During the late 90's Billy Bunter fronted a new kind of Hardcore mainly on GBT (also XY2, and Stompin Choonz), which was a combination of ardcore, trance and techno, and was thus aptly named trancecore, although some did actually refer to it as Bunter Style.
Then came the newer stuff from the early 2000's era. I actually call this new style hardcore, but at the end of the day is actually still just Happy Hardcore, it's just developed. It does have a lot trance riffs and synths so if folk want to call it trancecore then why not? For me though trancecore will always be the stuff Bunter brought out.
That's my twopenneth worth anyway. Some will agree, some won't. But at the end of the day who cares, we all love the same music :-)
