hmm, i dont think it matters if a person "classes" as chav as anything, if you dress like one, your going to get bundled in with the rest of them, no matter what your attitude
same as if you dressed goth, you would be bundled in with the rest of them, no matter what your attitudes on 'cutting' are.

What does "Chav" stand for, or is it just a random word that was given to describe trouble makers?
I much prefer the term "ned" - non-educated delinquent.

What are they wearing...is it chavy?
are they "hanging" out around a building/car park/car with other lads with shaved heads/baseball caps or other chav-like tendancys?
have they just shouted "Oi Mate, Wot the **** are you looking at" "E's Lookin' At Me Funny"?
if you answered yes to any of these - yeah, thats probably a chav.

In general, what makes someone a "chav" in England?
Up here, we generally categorize "neds" by the following:
Hats worn at 90 degree angles
Consumption of Buckfast/ cheap cider
Tracksuits (often white)
Gold chains/rings
Stripey jumpers
I'm guessing it's roughly the same down south?

3 types here where I live
1 will wear Lonsdale and tuck his trousers into his socks and just generally looks scruffy
Another will wear Nike or Adidas and usually has the latest trainers and usually will wear some kind of gold
The others are faggots who go out and get spray tans, and wear jogging bottoms or combat trousers

well the two on the right could pass as chavs in england - the one hiding in the backgorund its hard to tell...but by the hair/hat he looks more skater style
and the one in the black t-shirt looks like a nice enough bloke - he's just wearing a really gay top
