It never ends. I can't remember last time I heard something positive on the news. Just now; Plane crash, Floods, Buildings falling over. Yesterday; Death in car accident, Death in other car accident, Death in shooting in a neighboorhood.
How is news elsewhere? In Bowling For Columbine, Michael Moore blames America's violence on how much violence we see everyday on the news.
*please don't turn this into an anti-michael moore thread*

It's not an accurate portrate of reality, things truly are not that negative. The news is just there to create fear. Every isolated incident is taken and portrayed like it's an everyday event. Watching the news is a big mistake because of the reason you just described, it's depressing.
If the news was anything to go by, half the people i know should have been shot or stabbed on the street by now.

Exactly. When I was little, I was scared of walking in New York City because the news made it seem like the most dangerous place in the world, when in reality it's a very fun place to be. I still wouldn't walk around central park at night though! That really is dangerous haha.
My dad said I should watch MSNBC though, since I never know what is going on with my country politically. My lack of knowledge of what is going on with my country is really pathetic to be honest.
Edit: I also was listening to some comedian and he said the newspaper he read in the UK had some big article saying "Last Night, Hooligans Knocked Over A Trashbin." Is this legit? Is the news that awesome?

What irritates me is that, besides all the negativity, the happy stories that do actually make it to the air are all fluff stories. I almost never watch news on the TV anymore. Maybe once or twice a month. Because it's all worthless.

More corruption than you can fathom, that's what. Then again, most governments and political systems across the globe have gone down the crapper...

Hopefully it will get better. Obama was given a pretty big plate of shxt to deal with from eight years of Bush being in office. Or Chaney for that matter since he was doing most of the deciding.

I honestly don't think it's going to get better any time soon, seeing as how corruption isn't the root of the problem. It's society.

It might be worth remembering that, just like newspapers survive and make profits by increasing their circulation,
the different news channels rely on ratings to entice advertisers who generate the income and profit.
Sadly most people like the thrill of 'bad news', just like the rubber-neckers who slow down at the scene of a car crash in the hope of the cheap thrill of some gore,
and therefore the 'business' of the news caters to the lowest common denominator of the wonderful human race.
Bad news, sells.... and, as Hard2Get said, it generates fear, which is a useful form of Control.
A win, win situation.
I could be wrong.

the media is not out to create fear and scare and control people they are running a business, they want to make money. noone is gonna tune into the news or buy a news paper to read about boring shit, this is the stuff people wanna know about so thats what they show.
would you go to the cinema to see a film about a bloke going to the shops then going home, cooking dinner, reading a book then going to bed or do you go watch a movie full of explosions and action.
uneventfull news is boring as shit
