What do you guys think of it? I don't know how it is outside the US, but it can be ridiculous here. If you don't know what it is:
A zero-tolerance policy is a policy of not having a tolerance for transgressions: any infraction of existing laws and regulations, regardless of mistakes, ignorance, or even extenuating circumstances, will be met with full punishment. The term may be used in general or with reference to a particular category of transgressions, e.g. a zero-tolerance policy towards alcohol use. (taken from wikipedia. Don't worry, this is correct, I just couldn't put it into my own words)
This policy gets pretty extreme sometimes. After the Columbine shooting, there was a major concern of what was terrorism, weapons, etc. A boy was given suspension for having a nailclipper. This boy was in elementary school ffs. (was in Bowling For Columbine, can't find a news article though)
Another use of the policy is with cell phones. I don't mind the fact that teachers will take peoples phones away for texting in class since the point of going to school is to get an education, not to have relatively useless conversations with friends you'll see next period. It got out of hand in Texas (I don't remember the name of the school). A boy (in highschool I think) got a phone call. He answered it. It was his dad who was overseas in Iraq, and hasn't spoken to him in a long time. If I were the student being told I can't talk to my dad who I haven't seen and is in war, I'd probably tell the teacher to fxck themself (he didn't). They took the phone away and suspended him. Those are just two examples of the policy taken to an extreme.
One thing that concerned me with a huge flaw in this policy is weaponry. If they are going to have zero tolerance to the use, display, and even imagery of weaponry, then they should be smart about it. I made a list of items that should be banned under this policy, but aren't because they obviously have no idea that you can kill people with just about anything.
-Sobe and Arizona Iced Tea glass bottles. You can throws these into the air and they wont break on impact. You could easilly crack someones head with this.
-Exacto Knives. They're in my art classroom. Enough said with that one.
-Those big paper cutters in the art room. Get a screwdriver, take the blade arm off. Congrats, you have a machete.
-Pens and Pencils. Sharped them enough and you're sure to break skin.
-Metal Slinky. Stretch it out, now you have a choking wire.
-Plastic bag. Suffocate someone.
Just a few items that show how ultimately useless this policy is.
My thought: Zero Tolerance is useless, and has not helped schools become any safer or a become a better place. Tolerance should still be practiced, but not to an extreme like this.

if u think about it too much mate that can kill... absolutly anything know to man can kill - you can kil someone with a mobile fone, drown them in the tiolet... absolutely anything on this planet so where do u draw the line?

Mr. Hands is the horse guy. They made a movie about him called Zoo. I'm pretty sure it won the Sundance Film Festival.
I've never had a problem with anything at my school. Ditching is the biggest problem.
