I used laminate flooring when i renovated my apartment. Not as good looking or warm under your feet as proper wood floor, but a lot cheaper.

Yeah I would have liked wood but the price difference was massive. I found a really good laminate though and I'm 100% happy with it. :)

I'm only 80% :P But that probably has to do with the colder winters we have here. Though even with wooden floor, without floor heating id still need to wear my super warm and sexy Shepherd slippers.

Though it doesnt look that bad, if you dont watch for patterns, looks like real wood:

I have it currently in my living room, and in my hallway by our rooms.

It didn't take much time to lay down by the contractors. They put in the rounded ends along the walls, supports, and between rooms and at the stairs.

It took them no time at all, and I love it. It's so easy to maintain. I use a big floor duster mop to clean it, and it hasn't been scratched yet. Even with a 100 pound dog walking on it with sharp nails (Just never cut them, lol).

The only bad thing is if you wear socks a lot, and you the floor is cleaned recently, you slide everywhere. Funny the first first, falling on my ass the 100th isn't. Haha, well maybe it is.

I payed about 10€/m², dont go with the absolute cheapest ones. I used Tarkett's laminate, its a well known brand and fairly cheap http://www.tarkett-floors.com

Its pretty easy to lay, especially if its a newer house. Remember to put that matt under it, and leave the 7-11mm on the sides. I used a bench mounted circular saw (there has to be a shorter name for it?), it'll probably **** up the blade though, as laminate is a lot more thick then regular wood. So id recommend using another blade to saw those wooden things on the floor and on doors, dont know whats the name and my dictionary is failing me, i mean those:

Nothing, theres nothing that could move it. So you dont need anything.

Edit*: its as easy as that:

Its best to have a good underlay aswell though! Your missus will want rugs on it if you have it all over the house!

Yeah, mine doesn't seem to make my feel cold at all. I only have it downstairs mind and it's not normal for me to be down there not wearing socks.

Here's mine:-

Me and my mate laid it. Was very easy and didn't take long at all with the two of us. Hardest bit was getting it round the architrave around the doorways snugly but take special care with these bits and it's not a problem.

I used to work for a company that built offices & used to lay laminate floor all the time. I personally don't like it. It's clips together & can be quite hard to lay if your doing it for the first time. Do not buy the cheapest you find because it will be crap. At least go for a medium priced floor. The cheap stuff just lifts & falls apart eventually.
