don't you think its a bit late to apologise?

and yeah he was a hero, so was the whole enigma team. its just pathetic that they had anti-homosexual laws in those days. he was one of the biggest legends in british history and deserves that recognition

Apologising now would be as useful as white people apologising for enslaving black people lol; in that it's completely and utterly pointless, and makes no sense whatsoever. How can the government that now exists be sorry; they didn't do it.

Instead of an apology wouldn't it be better to give him a posthumous award for his incredible contribution to the free world?

i didn't know anything about this guy before reading the petition, but if it's true, it's the most terrible thing i've heard all day. no, all week.

we (the citizens of earth) have come a long way since then, i'd like to think.

I didnt know he wasnt treated as a hero in Britain, not only that but that he was actually prosecuted for being gay. Now if Britain treated their war heroes that way, i wonder what treatment regular folk got.

Edit: that said, our treatment on our warheroes wasnt that great either, due to the Paris Peace Treaty.

he is treated as a hero to a certian extent, well, by people who know who he is..

but he isnt seen as one of the big heroes due to british history being riddled with thousands of heroes in its past, more so than many many many many countries (not to be big headed, but its true). so his recognition gets lost behind a fog of even bigger heroes, shame really.

You know they'd be treated exactly the same way :P The government can't give people special treatment; that is all it is. It would be more of an outrage if they DID give special treatment (back then, obviously these days it's not a crime but then it was considered so wether it was or not).
I think the law was absolutely shocking, just making a point.
