dont you hate when someone spins off another thread? lol just had this idea after some MC bashing someone started a thread for us to defend. the last one has kinda gone to this anyway so i thought id start off with this as the actual topic
k. for those who dont understand. kandi kids, or just kandi enthusiasts maybe you can explain exactly why you wear it, what it means to you, and why it adds to your raving experience.
for those who are against it i also open you to CONSTRUCTIVLY and POSITIVLY for the sake of a good debate give the other side. to be clear, i probably wouldnt post what i did in the Kandi Makers thread on this one...that may have just been my frustration of my view point comming out...spirit of debate guys for the good of hardcore :)
P.S. i'll probably post my opinions later (again) but i'll leave it all to you guys for now.

The people that judge people for wearing kandi need to be more open minded, they might not like it but they should still be open minded as the people in question aren't doing anything remotely wrong. Everyone has a right to be interested in whatever the hell they want to be without question from narrow minded people.

I'll try to post my opinion, but it's probably going to sound biased (maybe a little?), and may not spark much debate.
There is nothing wrong with Kandi.
Honestly, I think a few pieces actually look very cool. And I have a few myself, because I've had people make me a couple before. And it's a very interesting..."style" of accessories I guess youu can say.
Because it's heavily personalized, and mostly unique between each person. Depending on who made it, why they made it, what they used, and if it has any sentimental value.
The ONLY thing that annoys me about "Kandi" kids is how many of them just WAAAAY over doo it. I understand wanting to "express yourself", but...really? Do you really have the need to wear 800 different pieces on ONE arm?
The fruity Mr. T 400 necklaces, with the care bears hanging off every piece is just over doing it! You honestly can't be comfortable wearing that! These people's arms have to be chaffing by the end of night; do you guys use lotion after every night of sweating with these heavy ass things on them, with 100+ other people around them.
I just don't see the point of wearing SOOO much. Expressing yourself is great, but there's got to be a cut off limit somewhere.
You'd think it'd be after the 100th piece, but noooooo.

Never came across anyone wearing it tbh. Well except Sc@r. Iv never worn it or been made any but since it seems to be a ravers only thing if i had the chance i probably would wear it everyday just so if another raver spotted it then we'd start talking. Kind of why i wear my Hardcore clothing all the time just incase another raver spots me etc.
Dont particularly think it looks bad (Kandi) it looks a bit hippyish but i spose ravers in a way are new age hippies, Love peace and Unity etc....
Dont think id ever wear it at a rave unless some of the little pieces are Hi-Vis lol :)

It's pretty much exclusive to the US. We have cyber-kids of course but that's a whole different scene.

Before the whole candy kid thing came about, people in the early days of the rave scene would wear something colorful or goofy so you could spot them out in a crowd to get your fix, which is why candy kids, though most of them brought it on themselves, are often stereotyped as "e-tards". Over time, this new trend of mixing PLUR with the bright colors, mixed with a new form of dance music that hit our nation called Happy Hardcore, brought about a group that dubbed themselves "candy ravers". They would go out and buy beads and string and make colorful bracelets and necklaces (which looked like candy) to hand out at the rave, usually to new ravers or to other candy kids. This trend started popping up everywhere across the nation, including Canada, and exploded by the end of the 90s. This whole new sub-culture was based on letting your inner child out and was solely centered around Happy Hardcore music along with other genres of Hard Dance. Children's tv shows, especially the 80's shows such as Rainbow Brite, Care Bears, My Little Pony, Popples, Sesame Street, etc became the popular theme for clothing. Candy kids had to make their own clothing and would use fabric sheets that had these cartoons on them, or simply dress up like the cartoon chacter themselves. For the 90's era, Blues Clues, Power Rangers, Power Puff Girls, Pokemon, Spongebob Squarepants, etc. The pants would be 40 inches-60 inches around on the bottom. When trading candy, the old way was to have all the bracelets you were handing out on one arm, and all the bracelets you had gotten on the other arm, and when you go to trade a bracelet, you hold the hand of the recieving arm and slide your candy onto their wrist. The point of this is to build friendships and express unity with people, and it add an image to the North American rave culture. This is one of the few things that North America, mainly the States, can say was created by us and thrown into the rave culture. Nowdays though, it has turned into more of a fashion phase instead of a unity concept. Also, with the promoters allowing all age parties, more teens than adults are picking up on being a candy kid and most are being shown the wrong ways, like doing E and cuddle puddling, because the old generation has left. That's why when you look at the pictures, and you ask "how is that comfortable dancing in?", sadly, some of them have never even set foot on the dacefloor. Trust me on this, you do get use to it. Honestly, I don't like wearing candy past my elbows because gravity just pulls it all down and yes, it does get kind of clobbered-feeling. Dressing up just adds more to the party atmosphere because we go to a rave to escape from the business/working world, we go to dance to music the mainstream views as unpopular (here in the states anyways), we go to unite with fellow ravers who enjoy the same music we do, and enjoy being wild and crazy for one night, and candy kids are the ones who, like Jimini Criket said, are pushing the wild and crazy part. I can sit here and say our scene is better than yall's all day long, but on the other side, yall can look our scene and say it looks stupid and ridiculous. Personally to me, from the way you all describe your scene, it sounds very dry, serious, and judging...wasn't that what the rave scene was created for, to get away from all that to begin with?
I am not saying any of this is 100% fact, I've just been told stories from older ravers who have been part of the scene for years, and this was just the timelime passed down to me. Jimini Cricket can probably add more or fix any thing I might have stated wrong. It's just about letting your inner child out, and yes, you can do that without dressing up, but that's the fun part! It's about walking up to a stranger and saying Hello and giving them their first piece of candy. I've had countless people come up to me and say, "I remember you, you gave me my 1st piece of candy." And it makes you feel good that they remember you. I just feel that it suites me, I love the colors and whole look in general, or I wouldnt dress the way I do. It is about looking goofy because you're going to, being dressed that way, you just have self-confident and not care what other people think! We're all here to have fun! It's just something that's kind of like an American tradition which is quickly fading out, whether that be good or bad, in my opinion bad.
To "OneandOnly", what you see as excessive WAS the original way of wearing it, so the people who are wearing maybe three or four are the ones who are just "I'll wear this because it was given to me and it is a rave afterall", but those people are not going to go out and buy the fabric, the beads, the string, the backpack, the toys, to create that raver image, which is totally fine, but maybe you should try actually asking them "hey, why do wear as much as you do?" and stop focusing so much about what people are going to think if they see you around them or how other people at the venue view them. You may wind up building better friendships with them if you take time to hear their reasons and their views, because you stated in the other thread that they know yours. That goes for everyone, why are you so quick to judge these people when you yourself hate being judged. It's like people you don't even know coming up to you and calling you a drug addict or a drug seller because they heard you mention you go to raves. You don't like it, and neither do we.

Not true.
I couldn't care less what you think about me ;D I'll still go on my jolly way.
And I already do have people asking me if I'm a drug addict, including my mom! And that was before I told them what I listened to.
Oh, and I have asked people before. But there aren't very many people out here that wear kandi, at all, and if they do they wear moderate amounts.
I still think there has to be a limit, SOMEWHERE. Somewhere it just has to get to much, too heavy; just generally TOO much. I have yet to see this limit.
It seems like you're trying to make it like I make fun of people that wear kandi, or that because you wear a specific amount I'll judge you differently. Wear as much as you want, and wear what you want. Doesn't affect ME in anyway, so why would I care? I just can't believe the amount people wear sometimes, but that doesn't mean I go up to them "You look gay, be normal.", far from it.
Yeah I said "Fruity Mr. T", I just thought it was a funny analogy. And, to go off what I stated above, the people I did ask just said they like to. And that's all that should matter. That you like it, who cares what other people think? I don't, but I still have my opinion that there's wearing kandi, and there's trying to wear as much as possible even if you don't feel comfortable, but you do it anyway just because you can.
Eh, who cares. Do what you want, I ain't gonna try to change you. Not my place.
But, dude, hit the enter button. Please? I had to hit quote, and hit some enters at random places just to be able to read it without straining my eyes with a wall of text.

Is it an issue?
It's people giving their opinions on the subject.
In a thread made specifically for it.

i have no idea why people care either way
its like arguing about what colour the grass should be..or fitting wheels to a tomato
time consuming, and completly pointless

I don't like that style but I have nothing against it and if someone wants to be dressed like that, he can … I just think it's ridiculous. It's like the thing with the army-pants and the shaved heads, I don't like it and I think it looks weird, but if someone likes it, I have nothing against it and he can be dressed like that if he wants. I'll probably be a bit ashamed to be with that person but yeah Just kidding, no offence ;)
