And I quote:
quote:
Support: no "Stereo Mix" option?
What' the deal here? Many (particularly newer Vista laptop computers) no longer support recording iNet Radio broadcasts and "streaming audio". They offer no option to select "Stereo Mix (speaker output)" as the record source.
Why is this? Well... you'll have an awful time getting computer manufactures/ vendors to admit this but the answer is that they have been pressured by the RIAA to disable this feature (so that folks can't get fair use out of their system). Their thinking is that folks may use it to illegally (I personally consider this action "fair use" but your mileage may vary) record sound. They (the computer makers) have "sold you out"!
What's the next step they (the RIAA) are working on to limit your "fair use"?
The RIAA, computer software developers, as well as computer vendors are working hard to implement a "tag" on any streaming audio (i.e. iNet Radio Broadcasts, etc...) that will not allow the audio stream to be recorded. This is the future! Talk about being super sensitive to copyright issues (well... anyone that would put a 13 year old girl in jail for downloading a few mp3's will do anything I suppose;-( I truly hope it will cause such an outrage, from the folks, that a nationwide protest will arise!
By the way - don't think this "tag" can be technically done? Think again: I have personally came close to coding/ perfecting this method but never fear = I WILL NOT RELEASE IT TO ANYONE FOR LOVE NOR MONEY! But be assured that other hackers/ programmers/ coders will and most likely all ready have.
I had to reformat my hard-drive (After I backed up essential data) because the system code had gotten corrupt. I had to re-install Vista on my system (Not my usual computer, but my other got smashed...don't ask), and come to realize..my sound card no longer has Stereomix!
My sound card no longer supports it with the latest drivers (And I can't roll back on a new install D<), because of the RIAA!
Now I have no way to record my mixes to my computer!
There are some supposed work arounds with specific downloads (I don't trust anybody enough on the internet to download something from someone not a respected company I can sue), or a Audio Loop Back cable.
But, come on! Stupid!
I'm pissed, I have to find another way to record my mixes after I spent money on an audio interface, bull shit!

All of those I've tried, and none of it worked.

Racist.
I can say that, I'm Native American.
I'll just have to get an external recording device, or something.
I don't know.

I need to find another copy.
My friend literally stole mine a few before my laptop was just utterly destroyed.
Vista is all I have at the moment, and need to upgrade the hard-drive in this crap to dual boot with Ubuntu.
Probably gonna scrounge up XP somewhere, but I still kind of want Windows 7.

The CD is useless, just the code on the back of your laptop matters.

Yeah...
Good luck getting that.

I don't HATE the RIAA, after all they're doing what they're paid to do. They're trying to stop people from illegally copying music, and being able to steal. Whether or not they're doing it the "right" way is another subject entirely; they're just doing their job.
Still sucks, either way, but I can't hate them for doing what they're paid to do. And, honestly, I think removing the stereo mix was a good idea overall, even if it stumps me (for now). Because most common users won't go through the trouble to be able to still record music.
Then again, most common users just use Lime"cord", because I can't type that apparently, anyway to get their music.
Like I said, whether they're good ideas or not is an entirely different subject, as one could argue it does nothing, and only beating around the bigger targets like Lime"cord", and other file sharing programs/sites.
