Where did it all start for you?
Listening to hardcore tapes when i was 15/16 then eventually going to Doncaster Warehouse Back in 1993..
There was a big group of us that started to DJ & MC.. I actually started out as MC Jonny El
From there I got the bug for the decks and carried this on.. pushing for bookings with the promoters and Finally I teamed up with DJ Fastraxx to create our first label Hyper Beatz Records
Where did the name come from?
My real names initials are JL but there already is a Jonny L so i changed it to EL
What gave you the initial push?
I Would say my positive thinking and knowing what i want to do in the scene..Keeping focused on what i want to achive..
Who would you say was putting on the best events at the moment?
Definitely HTID..Going abroad with there mark and making other hardcore events grow
Which other countries have you played?
Me and Jay Fastraxx have not long been back from NEW YORK.. Brilliant !
What was the first event you ever played?
Was a small event in my local town *** called Energise
What’s the best event you’ve ever played?
Best event so far has been Global Energy.. That’s based on the venue.
Based on the crowd was Dizstruxshon New Years Eve 2004
And for travelling to a club to a gig was definitely New York.
What was your first record you bought?
Jeez....err..ahah..That would be Poing on Rotterdam Records
Out of all the tunes you have, which one does the business every time?
Scott Brown Neck breaker (remix)
What's your favourite tune of all time, the ultimate classic?
Belgium Rave on Bonzai Records.
And when all the partying is over, how do you like to relax?
oooohh nice brew then Bed for me
How is the scene in your eyes at the moment?
I think its getting stronger, you have more budding producers creating material now..
How big is your vinyl collection? What is your opinion on CDJ's? (the pros & cons)
My Collection is about 300/400..
CDJs are very handy when you’re a producer.. Make a track..burn it play IT!
Bad side .. The only thing I can think of if you’re in a hot night club your CDs can steam up.. hence they won’t play.. Or even the lens getting steamed up.. Must admit they getting better now though..
The funniest thing that ever happened at an event?
Jay Fastraxx tripping over the power cable.. all came to a quiet.. lol
Other DJs you rate?
Too many to list.. Rate all DJs TBH
Who is/are your biggest musical influences in the world of music & why?
Elvis Presley/Michael Jackson i grew up listening too..very talented legends
There music was just so uplifting and influencing.
What are your feelings on the MC's?
Yes we need em.. they interact with the crowd more than us DJs do.. we need em to make us look good.. thats my feeling on them.. without them we would look boring..
What do you do outside of the dance music scene?
I’m a full time I.T Techincian..I love PC gaming until ungodleys hours in the moring !
What advice would you give to up and coming DJs/Mc's/Promoters?
Think Positive guys.. focus what you want keeping at it until you achieve.. come up with something total different that will make you stand out..DONT GIVE UP !
If you could stage an event anywhere, where would you choose?
I would have to choose a Big football field somewhere
How do you see the scene 5 years from now?
I think its going to be even bigger.. what with all the new producers about.. its going to see more labels, more events.. its just getting stronger
If you had a time machine what year would you go back to and why?
I Would go back to my Doncaster Warehouse years and start producing back then.. Reason being It would make me alot Stronger in the scene now
Any shouts you would like to make?
Big Shouts to Topgroove / Devastate.. Thanks for all your help over the years guys
Scott Brown, Gammer, Dougal, Ted Chaos, Dave Curtis, Martin Space, Jake Nichols, Welshy
All the Djs and Producers in the scence keeping up the good work !
