They usually give MCs the Shure SM58. That's the classic 'cheap' mic but it sounds surprisingly good on male voices (for a cardioid mic anyways).

It can also handle high volume pretty well.

Chances are they're cranked too loud and the MC is shouting so it's clipping though.

Also, keep in mind that on 'real/good' recordings they usually use really good quality preamps, condenser mics (which you can't use at a rave), EQ everything, use multiband compression, stick reverb and delay on and record in good acoustic conditions. Obviously you'll never get anywhere near sound that good at a rave.

I go to raves and throw raves. I still find 95% of MCs annoying and unnecessary.

They should be hyping the crowd every once in a while and introducing DJs between sets but blabbing on and on is ****ing annoying.

I've heard for some scenes, Mcing on record and Mcing at a show are two COMPLETELY different things.

QFT

There is a huge gap between happyharcore.com and the reality. Well I guess for some people, happyhardcore.com/internet overall is the only reality when it comes to Hardcore... Too bad :P

this is quoted for truth. there are actual raves happening every weekend that tons of people on this site have never even been to

Hmm, maybe so but I do think this thread has validity. As I stated earlier MC's used to be about getting the rowd going, now it seems to just be about rhyming all over the tunes. What makes them think that they're better than the music. We all pay to hear the music, not them ruin it.

But some of us have, so I think our comments are valid ;-) And I think 90%+ of the MC's these days ruin the music

Fortunately i havn't gone near main arena's at raves for the last few years so i don't have to worry about over hyped MC's :P I realise that your points are valid snerkler :P I wasn't referring to you by any means.

for someone who doesnt rate hardcore MC's anymore (redwings) you seem to be having quite an opinion of them.

mate u really confuse me with your posts.
Are you critising or bigging me up here?????

and why on earth Do I keep coming up in your posts?????

I'm a dj, i dont do no 'hardcore ragga-da-da hang tight with the mc scar' stuff (i leave that who those who can actually put rhymes together) and because I present my shows my own way, which actually has come from hosting a regular weekly pirate show on eruption 101.3fm for years alongside someone whos been live on radio since 1996 (13 years).

I try to get everyone involved into my shows from lots of shoutouts, doing requests, having regular guests, promoting up coming events, competitions, playing a varitey of music genres , at the same time being on the online chat / msn and taking calls and texts from the radio station phone (if it pirate) plus promoting the show at the same time. It does get full on.... then do that on three differnt stations per week for 2 hours a show.

everyone presents their shows the own way and before you take the piss out of my voice..... dont worry your not the only one coz I know my accent is one pretty mixed up right now so I dont actually know what is my real or radio voice that you hear. So i pretty much laugh at myself if I do hear a recording of what I sound like

lol you dont want to encourage me to start being a mc! then you wont ever get to shut up on the mic during a radio show ;)

hahaha i dunno why your in my posts..i think its only like the 2nd or 3rd time :P on this occasion i believe i had just listened to your show on kraftyradio so the example was fresh in the mind....oh and i wasnt criticising you, i like it when a DJ talks during a set specifically on a radio show interacting with the chat.

hmm perhaps next time i will think a little harder for another DJ to use as an example lol
