Just thought I'd add a bit of controversy, but hopefully you will all take this as intended and not get offended by it.

No matter how good we club/beat mixers and scratchers are we will never be as good as the hip hop guys. The things they can do with a set of turntables and a mixer(s) is mind blowing. Just listen to this :- (I chose this example as most people will know the Track and so should be able to hear what the DJ is doing)

For those that don't know what this is all about check out this youtube clip

This takes a while to get going but well worth the wait

This is why Djing for me alwys has to be on vinyl, when you start to watch the DMC finals you will see why vinyl is still the mode of choice for 'proper' DJing.

Nothing will ever beat vinyl, because well, it's not vinyl! For those people who do DJ and only use CD's, i don't know why they wouldn't WANT to use vinyl; it feels better, sounds better. Alot of people will argue that it's too expensive but that really has nothing to do with it, if you want something enough you pay for it, and in any case people had no trouble affording it before CD DJ'ing became popular.

I agree with that too.

I only use CDJ's out of necessity really and use vinyl wherever possible. 8) I just seem to have more fun mixing with it.

One of my mates is pretty good with all that shizzle. Have never bothered with it myself. Is bare skillz though, definitely.

and? makes changing records out for a 6 minute set that much easier

there are some neat tricks you can do with cdjs that can't be done on vinyl...saw the scratch perverts do a show on 6 decks & 6 cdjs...was nuts

For me I try to never use CDs I still use vinyl in my sets I don't even like the setups in clubs with the CD decks on top of the turntables the only time I use Cds is if that paticular choon isnt released yet on vinyl thats the only time Id use a CD. Vinyl is still amazing and nowadays djs have become lazy using CDs and even trying to scratch on pioneer CD decks its stupid hitting the cue button repeatedly to get the same sound even Djs when mixing nowadays cheat by just hitting the bass kill effects rather than be bothered to actually mix properly its a shame I think wouldnt surprise me if soon they have pre recorded mixes on 1 CD and just pretend there mixing.

U can get some great scratchin goin with vinyl on top of vinyl as its really slippery & when it comes down to how much these guys cram into their minutes on the decks, its a hellova lot quicker! Mind you, your vinyls wont last long

I will never stop mixing Vinyl. Its just a love that a lot of people cant quite understand! Like a few people have said before, whats the problem with putting some extra money into something you love & live for?

I think its an outrage that more & more releases dont make it to Vinyl when you consider the vinyl DJ's are going out there way & paying extra to keep the beautiful scene alive. All they have to do is not cut as many vinyls cause at the end of the day, the vinyl DJ's will find them anyway especially over the net! Afterall, thats part of the joy of mixing vinyl. Hunting down rare classics & holding them as part of your collection

Back on topic I agree, what these hip hop DJ's have done & still do is really something special & watching them on the decks went a long way to to the love I have for vinyl now. Its just a form of art that CDJ's will never even come close to.

Analog - Digital. worlds apart!
