Kev Willows youtube vids:

Probably the best hardcore tutorials on the net.

Eufion has started on his turorials with a look at some CD decks, which ones slip my mind right now.

Damo, get your hands on Nexus if you just want to know what sounds to use, that's pretty much what most producers uses these days.

You can buy it from http://refx.com/?lang=en&page=products/nexus/summary

As far as the best production tool...that's a very big can of worms to open.

Please, please do not buy Nexus. There's no customization to it at all. No, extra presets and custom skins do not count. There are numerous other VSTs out there that are much better. Just to name a few, z3ta+, Sylenth, AcidBassLine, and Albino. Bear in mind those are only a few. And those are only instrument VSTs; there are loads of FX VSTs as well.

This is just my opinion, but I recommend using maybe a few good VSTs that can do all that you want, instead of using tonnes and tonnes of free VSTs. While there are of course good free ones out there, quite a few (can) cause problems, or are just flat-out crap.

Also bear in mind that VSTs are only plugins - not DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations). This thread has quite a few good suggestions for DAWs, some free, some costing in the thousands.

Nexus is a good choice (apparently). As are Vengeance Essential Clubsounds samples. Synths; Sylenth, Albino3, Massive the list goes on. But you will need a DAW to put it all into use. As for tutorials - Kev Willows will be very useful. Watch them. And of course there's always the option of Google ;)
