So I currently swim for Halstead Swimming Club. The new head coach dislikes me, and I'm not getting the swims that I should rightfully be getting...
The captains were picked yersterday, and the choice was heavily flawed on many grounds. The committee (the group of people who run the club) are useless, and full of bias people making decisions to benefit their own kids...
The team is a brilliant team however, but not performing how they should be.
Myself, and 3 of the teams other best swimmers are defecting to a rival club, Sudbury Swimming Team because we need the change. They have an experianced coach, and a strong older team. Whilst I know that I wouldn't get the swims stright away, I feel a change would be enough for me to become more motivated and improve... Though this club is further away, and less convenient... Their younger team is worse than Halstead's and I'm leaving behind friends.. Though if I want to keep swimming I think it might be necessary...
Not only that, Halstead would be screwed... they'd have only 2 older swimmers left and their open team would be crippled...
I'm clueless as to what to do... its a big decision and its raping my brain to death... Should I defect with my friends? or stay and tolerate the uselessness of Halstead...

if your not getting a rightfull chance to shine then whats the point in staying? if you are sure you will have a better chance with an other team then move to that other team.

If it where me I'd defect. You sound unhappy where you are at the moment so why stay? Maybe you need the change.

hmmm ya i think id leave too personally, although i dont know the culture of the sport and how much the 'team' matters in swimming (as far as on the political side obviously in a race who you have matters). as well is there a swimming season? perhaps you should wait until the end of the current one and then switch with everyone?

yeah I think the time's right to switch. the season for swimming lasts until next august, so its still early days. chances are i wont have many swims with halstead.. even though I rightly should.
Its very questionable when a coach enters someone into a swim with a 100m backstroke time of 1:15, when i can do a 1:10...
and yeah, big up the Storms!

....well, I don't know if this will help but
my Aunt lives in Sudbury....
and, besides that incredibly relevant bit of information, if it was me, I'd ask the new Head Coach why he/she is entering someone who's times are slower.
I'd also say that Nepotism is sickeningly unjust and if it continues I'd leave for another club.
If the Coach got angry or unreasonably defensive I'd look him/her up and down, look him/her in the eye, shrug and say
"....enjoy it while you can then, 'cos I'm leaving"
and leave.

thats the thing, I asked why and he shrugged his shoulders and didn't really explain it...
Problem is, If i left it wouldn't make much difference. Swimmers come and go all the time. Even if all 4 of us leave, they'd still replace them with younger ones who'd then grow to be as good, or better...
I found out from the guys daughter that neither he or the second coach like me... i dont know why... but im not willing to stay in a club that is desperately two-faced...
