My apologies if there's already a post about this.
I have no clue about happy hardcore except the little I've read, but I want to start exploring the genre.
My first question is regarding the term "4-beat". Do you consider it interchangeable with happy hardcore?
My second question is where do I start? It seems like a more single-centered genre rather than LP-centered. If that's true - what are some good introductory compilations? Or maybe there are some classic LPs in happy hardcore...if so, what are those?
Just looking to get a foothold, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

4-beat was the term used to describe uk happy hardcore in the mid 90s...the earlier half of the 90s 'hardcore' in the uk was mainly breakbeat lead
tell us what kind of stuff you like and people can direct you in a direction of what to listen to.
just an fyi, most of the people on here now are new and didn't really listen to hardcore in the 90s so most of the albums they will recommend are late 90s till present...

Yeah, if anyone could recommend some mid-90s UK happy hardcore that would be great. I like stuff like Detroit techno, electro, 2-step, dubstep, drum 'n' bass if that helps at all.
The names Slipmatt, Dougal, Vinylgroover repeatedly crops up. Are any of them a good place to start? And if so, what song/album/EP?

every time I look at it I hear the grape ape theme song start up =P
probably the easiest solution would be to start with the 'bonkers' cd collection.
if you've got a tape deck I'd recommend going to some place like imorecords.com or slamminvinyl.com and purchase mix tapes of events. I was able to diversify my sets by being able to hear so many different tunes growing up listening to different djs play out at parties.
