It isn’t easy breaking through in any scene, especially one that in a more positive tone, is breeding some rather talented individuals amongst it’s ever expanding ranks. These boys on the other hand have made sure that they’ve done it well and done it with a lot of hard graft (and cups of Tea), under their belts. We do speak of course of the ever popular UK hardcore scene, although to pin these guys down to one genre would be just silly. They may be known for UK hardcore and indeed it may be the primary flavour of choice when it comes to preparing the next masterpiece but, between brothers Stylus & AudioJunkie there is a monumental amount of talent which allows their skills co-joined with business partner and long term friend MC Whizzkid to produce a number of tracks and remixes that spread quite a few genres.

To say they are talented is somewhat of an understatement, their original productions and cheeky bootlegs have more than likely found their way onto an album or CD pack in your collection recently, especially with the likes of the superb track ‘Dubzone’, their cover of ‘Show Me A Sign’ or their infamous bootleg of ‘In For The Kill’ still destroying rave land’s dance floors nationwide. They’ve got two Pure Hardcore compilation albums to their credit and when they are not making well deserved appearances at leading branded events like HTID, Hardcore Heaven and Fusion, they are locked into and focussed on developing the Broken Records label, which looks to show it’s truly original and altogether different, yet brilliant colours at a record store near you, especially in 2010.

Taking the headline slot with Whizzkid at the Bang Bar in Basingstoke this Friday night for Hardcore Revelation, we talk future hardcore business and beyond with the hardcore industries brightest brothers.

Well look at this, we’ve only gone and got Stylus & AudioJunkie, just in time as well for Hardcore Revelation this Friday. Gents, thanks for doing this, haven’t interrupted anything important have I?

Stylus: Well actually we were just making our own Christmas cards. AudioJunkie’s already tried eating the glitter so I’ve had to put it on a high shelf out of his reach!

Ha Ha! Brilliant! So, here we are, first catch up in a little while and when we last bumped into each other you had just quite literally blown Lakota apart at Ravers Are: Bonkers. How was it for you and was it good to re-team with Whizzkid playing to a packed main room?

Stylus: It’s always a pleasure when we get together with Whizzkid. The Lakota ravers were well up for it and their energy on the floor was awesome. We definitely enjoyed every minute and can’t wait to go back for the ‘Broken Records’ sequel!

I must say, it’s something that has become quite frequent of late, the Broken Records trio in full effect on many a main stage, give us a bit of inside scope on your most recent adventures?

AudioJunkie: Well, where to start? We’ve been working hard launching the label and have lined up several killer tracks for release early next year. The ‘Broken Records’ website is nearly complete and ready to roll and we’ve been working on a few little secret projects… all will become clear in the fullness of time!

Also, we’re in the process of recording a promotional video for the new ‘Slammin Vinyl 2010 Calendar’, in which Stylus appears in his pants (something for the girls), so stay tuned!

The perfect Christmas gift, Stylus in his smalls! Ha Ha! We’ll get back to the site in a second, but for the meanwhile - are you finding more so that some of those dreams of bigger things we discussed before are now being realised? Have you now started to tick off some of those events on your list of all time must plays? Do you keep such a list and if so, what’s it got on it?

AudioJunkie: There is indeed such a list Mr Brown! Our ‘Clubland X-treme Hardcore’ release was definitely a milestone for us and things have really started moving in the right direction for us of late, we’ve ticked lots of our all time ‘must play’ events but there are still a couple to go.

I can’t tell you the names because I’m superstitious, but I can tell you that we love producing hardcore and performing for the ravers so every event we’re at definitely makes it onto the list somewhere.

Speaking of lists, Christmas is coming, what’s a typical Christmas like for the Broken Brothers?

Stylus: Well Christmas is a time for over indulgence and none live up to that more so than I! Christmas dinner, pudding, cake, chocolate, drinks and more often than not it ends in a date with my mate Rennie. AudioJunkie usually ends up semi clothed at some point in the celebrations as well which is the funniest thing you’ll ever see.

We also get together with Whizzkid and celebrate his birthday big time, last year, drinks in hand and party hats on we… (Stops). Well that’s a story I’ll save for next time!

Of course! Whizzkid’s birthday is Christmas Eve! For you guys though, one would hope you get time off from that studio of yours, which reminds me, what’s cooking in it presently? We’ve had the pleasure of Pure Hardcore 2 this year from you as well as some other delights and some superb bootleg mixes such as The Veronicas ‘Untouched’ and La Roux’s ‘In For The Kill’ (Raver Dave’s personal favourite). Any more of those planned too?

AudioJunkie: (Laughing) - We do like to drop a cheeky remix or two into the set. We’ve just completed a ‘Freemasons’ track that got its first airing at ‘Raverbaby’ last week to a rammed main room. Mrs Stylus suggested an Christmas remix of Shakin Stevens ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ but don’t worry we wont put the ravers through that…we’ll just stick to ‘Walking In The Air’.

Aled Jones remixes now is it?!?! On a more serious note, your label Broken Records on the whole, like yourselves has developed at a rapid rate since we spoke earlier this year, MiDJe and Whizzkid are also raving about an all new website that’s a project they’ve been secretly working on for you, have you been given any previews as yet and what are the plans for the new site, if you’re aware of any? What’s in store for the digital home of all things Broken?

Stylus: Well as yet we’re hearing great things but we’re still on tender hooks. I’m sure Whizzkid’s got it all under control and with MiDJe on the graphics we can’t wait to see it. Digital wise, tracks, merchandise and freebies will all be available from the site so keep your eyes peeled.

Have you actually ever broken any sort of record? If so, what was it (or what was it for)?

AudioJunkie: Well I’m not sure we’ve broken any records yet, but we’ve certainly made a few fruit bowls out of them! If you mean the ‘Guinness’ kind I think Stylus should hold the record for most toilet breaks on the way to gigs. He does drink an obscene amount of tea however - it is the cornerstone to all Stylus and AudioJunkie productions!

Well, records broken or not, we’re certainly going to see you break some boundaries in 2010. What does 2010 mean to you, what are your aspirations and plans?

Stylus: 2010’s all set to be a big one for us, with ‘Broken’ set up and ready to go we’ll be hard at work writing and releasing new material. We’re looking forward to lots of live appearances and although 2009 was a great year for us, we can’t wait to get 2010 underway.

We’re looking forward to it! In the meanwhile though, you’re getting your DJ thing going on along with your partner in all things Broken, MC Whizzkid on mic duties this Friday for Hardcore Revelation, a taste of things to come this Friday please? What to expect from the bad boy brethren and any message for all those hoping to see you Friday?

AudioJunkie: Well, the ravers are in for a treat this weekend, alongside Whizzkid we’re gonna smash the ‘Broken Records’ proverbial granny out of it! We’ve got several new tracks, one of which will be played for the first time Friday and cant wait to get down there!

Also for those who haven’t got one yet, we’ll have a couple of Limited Edition Pure Hardcore 2’s to give away so rest up ravers, cos’ ‘Broken Records’ are coming to town and it’s gonna be HARDCORE!

We certainly hope so! Gents, thank you for coming through at short notice for this. We’ll leave you to do the duties on any shout outs, web links, portals, gig dates or release dates you want to leave us with until we see you Friday…

Shout outs to all the ravers who come along to see us every weekend, so many to mention but you know who you are!

Check out http://www.brokenrecords.co.uk soon, until then look up mcwhizzkid, alex stylus mentzel or eddy audiojunkie on the usual My Space, Facebook and Twitter groups and pages.

Till then boys!
