The XX remixed Florence And The Machine's remix/cover of You Got The Love to quite good effect. Can't see why you would need to leave a few years gap though?
@Rowan: Grammaphondzie - Why Don't You (the Peggy Lane remix you mentioned) - brilliant tune. As is Oliver Twizt - Another Step (samples Aretha Franklin's One Step Ahead) which is in the same vein. There's quite a few of those kinds of tracks doing the rounds at the moment - another i've just heard on Annie Mac's show that i quite liked was Dangerous Dan - The Ritz (Riton Remix)(samples Putting On The Ritz) - but they're not remixes of remixes they've just sampled a record and made a tune from it. The same thing that's been happening in dance music since, well, it's creation. As for the legallity of them, at that level - to be played on the biggest radio station in the counrty - the samples would have been cleared and ok'd by the artist/record label.
