I just started playing the Ancient Chinese board game "Go" (aka Baduk or WeiQi). It's a strategy game where you place stones on a grid and try to gain as much territory as possible. I like to think of it as Othello or Reversi on steroids.
I got a Go board for my birthday a year ago, but nobody in my family wanted to play, so I gave up on it. But here it is a year later (birthday is on the 21st), and I just picked it back up. The game is becoming very addicting, and I've even persuaded my dad to learn the game. Tomorrow I'm even staying after school with my girlfriend because she wants to learn how to play as well.
I really recommend that anyone reading this should learn the game. It's the oldest board game still played today, dating back to B.C. years.
Here's the wiki article which I've read, and is accurate rule-wise. I can't vouch for anything about the history, because I still don't know the entire background of the game.

Ha Monopoly itself takes hours to complete.
But yeah, Go is cool. Back in Middle School there was a Manga in Shonen Jump about Go. I also have a friend who went to China to compete in their Go competition... and got pwned.
Wish I could put more input on Go, but currently I'm playing Scrabble. xP
