Haha. :P I've got a cabinet about a metre and a quarter high filled with tapes from the early nineties till around '04. Never play them anymore mind despite having two tape decks set up at mine.

Shit loads from 1990 onwards. I'm gonna convert them all to MP3 & pack the tapes up in a box safely.

The UK must have better tape material. I bought some blank tapes about 2 years ago, and the sound is already warped.

Could be mate. I can listen to my tapes from 1990 & 99% off them play perfectly.

I think it's more likely warped_candykid hasn't been storing them in good conditions. Too hot/humid/cold etc.

Yeah, tapes are sensitive compared to CD's etc so if you leave them lying around all over the place then that it is going to effect the quality. Also if you put them next to magnets it will wipe them or at least completely mess up the sound. The tape player you use can itself damange the tape too (although not good quality ones). Hardcore on tapes (live event recordings not ones i've made myself) is still my favourite listening medium, it's a much better listening experiance in my opinion (although it also has something to do with the fact they are live mixes too).

and yea warped always store them inside their case when you aren't using them, and then put them all in a box for safekeeping. i have some from the 80s (not hardcore tapes tho) from my parents and they still played like new a year ago.

Vinyl and tape equally (although vinyl is better quality), the reason i didn't say vinyl is because i don't listen to mixes on vinyl, it's a different way of listening really. But apart from that your right. When it comes to non-Hardcore music then that is different altogether, vinyl is most certainly the best.
