Right is there anyway to trace your family tree for free? I know about geneoligy or whatever its called but don't you have to pay for that...?
The reason i ask is because a girl with the same last name as me has been trying to chat me up and swears that were not related even though shes from the town my family originated from and i need to check it out...
We wouldnt be related by blood anyway because my mother is adopted and its my mothers name that she has, but still its a bit ****in weird lol..
So anyone know of any sites?
thanks in advance :)

I'd say your starting point is asking your grandfolks.

My grandfather did some research, and managed to trace his roots back to year 1208! He may have gotten further since I last saw those papers, though.

Wow nice!
I know my mothers adopted parents stretch back to Harold Godwinson apparently (hes the guy William the conquerer defeated in 1066 if anyone didnt know)
Yea im gonna ask the older people in my family before i invest in properly researching to find out if the lass is related. I doubt she is but theres no way im gonna risk humping my cousin or something haha

Don't think your gonna have much luck finding out for free mate. I tried a while back & looked for ages trying to find a free site. Everyone i found had to be paid for.

you can work it out based on the baby. ie. does it have 2 heads with three eyes in each?

Lol... Even direct blood relatives like siblings rarely see any mutations in the offspring, it takes 3-4 generations of inbreeding for HIGHLY noticeable problems. I'm really not sure why you care so much, you even said yourself she has your mother's maiden name so she can't be related by blood. Also, since it's your MOTHER's name and I'm assuming you have your father's name, no one but family from your mother's side would even know. And if shes adopted, there's probably not too many of them at reunions >.>
If you like her, go for it...

No i have my mothers name, belive me if i told you my whole family story it would take ages lol. Very interesting but can not be arsed to type it and i doubt anyone would want to read it lol.
And yea were not going to be related by blood but still sleeping with someone who is my family (i class my mothers adopted family as my real family because they are as they raised me) is weird to me....

Church has the best records on family trees AFAIK. As back in the day they were the only ones keeping record of people. Ask your grand parents and when you cant get further on the line, go check the records at the church.

Or head over to the genealogy section at your local library.
I can understand the awkwardness of explaining to your friends that your girlfriend has the same last name though haha.
Convince her to change her name? :D

that is def not true. obviously the percentage risk of abnormalities is higher, but it's high enough on 1st cousins. 1 of my uncles married a girl who is possibly his uncle's daughter, no one's really sure. anyways the 1st child has down syndrome and it is noticeable. never got the full details on their 2nd daughter but i hear she has at least 1 disability, not sure what it is tho but it was mental.
and they both met and got married in a small town in the middle of nowhere in Mexico.
