Anyone know a free program that will encrypt a single file/folder, etc?

I just want to encrypt some files I have on my flash drive to take to school that has to do with a really big paper I'm doing, and I don't want people stealingz meh shit if I happened to lose it (it wouldn't prevent it, just annoy the shit out of most common thieves).

I found one called "Amethyst CIPHER" which lets me be able to open it without having to have the program on the computers at school through a simple password, but it wouldn't let me set the password in the trial version. Had to pay for that crap ._.

~

Also, anyone know about setting passwords into a .zip with WinRAR?

Like I want to be able to put each file I want for this paper into separate encryptions, so would I be able to effectively compress each file, then have WinRAR on my flash drive, and type in a password to unlock it, then pull it out? That's all I really need!

Thanks to anyone that can help!

You could just partition the drive, then hide and password protect that partition.

That's right, hellokitty.com, and don't act like you don't want one too.

To set passwords on winrar when you "Add to archive" just go on "advanced" then "Set pasword"...

Never really ever looked at WinRAR, I downloaded it, used it to unzip shit, and never bothered to learn it's in an outs haha. Thanks for the heads up about that I'll try that tonight with just a test file and take it to class tomorrow to see how it goes.

Also @ the partitioning is my 4gb has like 3.70gb taken on it, so I really don't want to partition it at all. Otherwise, I would. I wish I a mini-external HDD to do that with, but can't.

You should really do a good exploration into WinRAR. It's a lot more powerful than you think. :3 Plus in comparison to other archival programs such as 7zip, in terms of speed, efficiency, blah blah blah it kicks butt!

As for encrypting the drive, you could take the easy route and just try something like BitLocker (if you have Vista or 7). There are also free encryption programs such as TrueCrypt and FreeOTFE. I know any kind of piracy isn't your thing so I won't go there.

Cheers.

i haven't used anything but winrar for the past 5 years, but I dont see how it's faster than 7-zip? I feel WinRAR is painstakingly slow at times (could be I do other stuff with my computer too :P)
