it's just a liquor store, but at least i got my foot in.
life is good this summer, let me tell y'all...
i've been getting lucky (today even before the interview), just landed the highest paying job i have ever had, i will be renting a complete house that doesn't have some fat couple tromping around upstairs all the time.
now, if only i could get a paid booking in this province spinning happy hardcore then i might catch a glimpse of being (almost) complete in life.
no wait, then i know i'd be dreaming for sure.

sounds like fun! i always wanted to work at a liquor store, but i imagine most of my paycheck will be going back to the company! hah!
btw, how is that a govt job? are they really strict about alcohol over there that it's owned by the govt?

as a customer, the cheapest place you can buy your alcohol is at "BC liquor". it's government run and nothing is chilled aka ready to drink.
you can buy liquor at privately owned stores, but they always jack up the price so much.
it's not like in some states in the US i've seen that have alcohol and gasoline for sale at the same place, and everywhere practically. it's very hard to even get a license to sell privately and i think things are different in the states (and much much cheaper!)
so yeah, that is all pretty strictly run here in canada and heavily taxed too.
fun fact: did you know that beer brewed in BC (kokanee) is cheaper to buy in the US even after the exchange rate? that's ****ed.

that's like name brand clothing. It's more expensive to buy a RL Polo shirt in India that was made there than the US. i had a coworker who had family and knew ppl at the factory so he would get a whole stack of extras for $5USD
and here in tx they don't have liquor at gas stations only beer. a shame too.

Here everything that has more then 4,7% alcohol can only be sold by Alko, a government owned company that has monopoly over alcohol that has more prosents then that. Though Estonia is close and they have much cheaper alcohol :)
Congrats on the job :)

I'm guessing alcohol tax. Canada has one of the highest, and since Americans hate taxes i guess they dont have that high.

okay, to put things into perspective min wage in this province is $8 something so.. 3 hours work for a 3/4 litre of your chosen poison.
i don't really know exchange rates and what min wage is in australia, but it's probably about the same at the end of the day i'd think?

well most ppl who buy quality liquor don't normally hold a minimum wage job. you can get drunk off of cheaper stuff. It probably wouldn't taste as great but hey the same result for a fraction of a cost.
I personally don't do cheap liquor unless i go to a bar and order rum & coke i won't care or notice the difference much

i was just trying to use that to help put into perspective what $25 means in canada.
it's not a lot of money, but it's three hours of min wage work in this country.
