as in the lyrics of sy's track - just accept it " im a raver not a crazy drug addict"

in australia i like the smaller events its a better vibe big deal the lights arent as good or whatever at least then u dont get the people who goto raves just to be cool or whatever then its purley about the music :). yes drugs are apart of the scene but who cares as long as the users arent hurting anyone else.

* i wish i had a cool qoute*

... or themselves. I don't think I'm callous enough to look at an OD'er and say, "Serves you right". Also, people hurting themselves is bad for the scene, cuz it's them that be getting all the publicity, innit?

i haven't read through all the posts, just the first page but i know that when big wigs with no interest other than to make money stick there oars in everything goes to shit.

back in the very early 90's there was a tv show in the uk called hitman and her, the hitman being 'pop bigwig' pete waterman, they went around to the larger raves and the show was very popular.

anyway he decided to cash in and released a few of the most popular tunes into the charts
after that, to be called the name rave and raver was almost an insult, it was certainly very embarassing

i have never forgiven him for this, and since he's on the f#©in telly every day at the moment with a new show i'm reminded all the more

if the underground scene hadn't been so strong it may not have survived such an embarassment and then i would have to have shot him! (no seriously!)

The problem with making 'raving' illegal is that, like monkeyboy sez, it's not a defineable concept. I've read somewhere (may or may not be on this board) that it's been defined by a law-making body as a given number of people in a public place dancing to music characterised by a repetitive 4:4 beat - really, does that make hardcore parties illegal and dnb parties ok?

What I don't thik they recognise is that, in comparison with all the negative shit that oldies tend to associate with youth (crime, violence, gangs etc) raves are a really *positive* outlet where, in theory at least, people are brought together by their love of music to safe and welcoming environment where they can enjoy that music in eachother's company.

Having said that, though, it's sad to see that there are too many people in the scene who *want* to live up to the stereotype perpetrated by mainstream society that ravers are a bunch of drug-addled morons. Inevitably it's these people who get themselves in legal and medical trouble and end up getting all the publicity. Meanwhile, the rest of us are stuck in the shadows where no-one can see us proving that responsible raving is, in fact, a reality.

I agree. Also when reading this a person might get discouraged and wonder what he/she can do.
The best thing we can all do is realize that we are just one person representing a group. Ask yourselves, How am I best serving my rave community right now? Then take action to do so.
If more people took this way of thinking on then we could band together to create an indestructible force. A force where we would be heard, not as "crazy drug addicts", but as tax-paying citizens who wish to preserve, and exercise their right to dance as a late night dance community, and participate in a cultural, and artistic movement known as Raving.
