I have a question for anybody who's played on a proper sound system at an event. It's that my cousin has a booking in Bristol (I Think) It's his first time playing in a proper club & on a proper sound system. As i have a much bigger collection of choons he has asked me if can copy some to CD to use. These are all my rips which i copied myself from choons i have bought on vinyl. The thing i want to know is they are pretty much all recorded at 128 or 192. Does this matter? Should they all be 320 or will 128 sound OK on a proper system?
Thanks in advance.

To me, nothing under 320k sounds good and proper over a PA system. But honestly I've been encouraged to get WAVs now. They do sound a lot better mixing with em anyway.

i've only ever played out on vinyl, so i cant help much - though for my 2 cents Luna-C said he had (and i loosely quote) "played out 192 and it had gone down fine before, but a safer bet is anything above that" :)

320 MP3 has to be a minimum in a club IMO.
The better the sound system the worse a track will sound under that tbh.

I don't know much about this but is it possible to convert from 128 to 320?

It's actually a lot more noticable on a decent PA system so I'd watch it. 128 is a definite no no!
You can't convert MP3's up in quality I'm afraid no. ;) Why not lend him the records and avoid any issues!?

you can always lower the bitrate... but think of the bitrate as how much information is getting passed every second.
You can take away some of that information, sure. But you can't add to it.

Thanks to all for the help.
The reason i won't lend him the vinyl is he lives about 5 hours away from me. I don't see him that often & i can't see me ever getting them back. Copied CD's ain't important if they're lost.

Ah that's fair enough then mate, I wouldn't either in that case. Infact I wouldn't lend my records to a few of my good mates who live locally actually the way they "look after" theirs lol.

Gotta agree with everyone, especially if hes mixing a full 320 digital quality track, then mixes in a low quality vinyl rip, it will sound absolutely awfull. Tell him to stick to what hes got or buy some digis off T.I.D, IMO etc..... if hes travelling to you which is 5 hours away, tell him dont bother, save the petrol money and buy some tuneage!!! he wont regret it!!!! GOOD LUCK
