Personally I like hardcore with a very hard beat. One of the reasons I hate freeform as it never seems to have enough bass. Also something fresh that has'nt been done a million times.
Joey Riot seems to have the idea with a lot of his releases. Lethal theory seems to release a good variety of tunes. Guess that's why they won best label 2 years running. They are'nt trying to sound like everyone else.

I look for a few things. Clean production (although sometimes I'll forgo that if the track is good), catchy riffs, how well will it fit into my mix and generally something different to the other tracks I'm going to mix it with. Also, and most importantly, I have to like it! I don't just play tracks because they're popular, if I don't like it it doesn't get played on my decks.

Something different, not just the same supersaw lead that every man and his dog is using. Although this can be forgiven if the rest of the track is great.
I like pianos, breakbeats, and good basses. So many people make really nasty basses that just dont sound right.
I like big epic breakdowns too, thats one of the main things I love about Chris Ross, as well as his diversity in what he makes, his breakdowns can give me goosebumps easily, like in 'Lets Go Disco'.
Possibly the best breakdown of all time is in 'Music of the Primes' IMO. This is why I like artists like Cube::hard and StrifeII aswell. Its not just music, there is emotion in there too, which is hard to achieve in a 170bpm+ genre

Cheese!!
Anything happy, I don't mind hard bass but unless it has a cheesy melody or some happy vocals then I'm not sold. I had a few weeks away from the internet recently and went straight to trackitdown when I was back online and it was a bit disappointing for the most part. All this thump thump thump thump etc. doesn't do it for me one bit, just seems to lack imagination.

can't really argue with that.
I especially hate the use of old riffs with some of the original notes changed for much less appealing ones that the original producer saw fit not to use.... 'cos those notes are sh*t!
....and then these current producers have the front to presume that they've come up with something new and original. No!
....and all these extra 'twiddley' notes that they stuff into an uninspiring, insipid, soulless riff in another weak attempt to be 'different'. F off!
....and what's really depressing is the number of Hardcore fans that actually like and are taken in by this crap. ffs.... maybe they need to get themselves some decent ears.
I could be wrong. :)
....but I'd buy something that's got some genuine musical content and intelligent use of the usual Noises that modern Hardcore needs.

Eh.
I listen to it and if I like it I might buy it.
Quite simple, really.

Sometimes a threatening bass, some happy pipe organs, pianos, chirpy female vocals, vocals that have some effect done to them, nothing that sounds like sped-up trance or male vocals.

Anything punchy without male or auto tuned vocals.

I look for funny or awesome songs. I bought Street Fighter, Makin' Bacon, Success 'N' Mistreet, Bro Rape, and Zorba's Dance because of that exact reason.
Other than that I try and find something epic, like Utopia or Suck My Rock.

Fcuk me, I haven't heard that tune in years. What a truly monumental track. Have to listen to it now.
You know if it got a digital release?

I think it was given away for free in the end. It had a vinyl release and then the mp3 was given away either on Cube::hard's website or the RFU site
