My thoughts on production:
A well produced crap tune is still crap.
A badly produced great tune is still great.
The thing is, there have been many successful great tracks which are badly produced, but very few successful crap tunes, even if they are well produced.
So it is always more important to make a good tune in the first place, and worry about production afterwards.
On the other hand, great production comes from well thought out ideas and good quality samples etc etc, which you need to have before you make the track.
Even so, whatever way you look at it, the best tunes are great AND well produced!
While you're about; something I heard DJ Pierre saying is that he believes that since production has been done digitally on computers the quality of music has gone down because too many people are 'listening' with their eyes more than their ears, he even says himself that he's guilty of it. What do you reckon?
I am struggling right now to bring my own sound up to date, without losing what makes my music sound like me.
What seriously might be a good idea for you is acid as in LSD. It's used as a source of inspiration a lot by musicians, writers etc., if you get a few ideas together in your studio beforehand and then you drop some and THEN tackle the problem you might get some really great ideas, using things like keyboards etc. will feel like you're piloting some kind of spaceship powered by music and that you're flying through like a void of silence and the only way to progress is to make good music; the better music you make the faster your craft travels through silence.
maybe it seems a bit barmy but you don't know until you try!

I'm pretty sure he is well past doing silly things like that. Anyway, Mr Luna C, regarding what you said, i know it's probably going to be an annoying comment but why not just do what you want and sound like you? Less people may like it but the ones that do will actually like it a lot, you had no trouble with you're older stuff and it sounds absolutely amazing (KFA stuff for example, although I'm not suggesting that is the only stuff by any means). There is already no profit to be made so all your really left with is people liking your music or not. I'm very aware that you're far more knowledgeable on the matter than i am and I'm not trying to tell you anything new; that's just my opinion. I mean, if there really is nothing else to gain.

Well yes it's audibly incredibly obvious that many people are concentrating on just about everything but the music. Across all genres.

To answer both comments - I have tried various drugs over the years, most had little effect, and I personally don't think they are ever "needed" to make good music. I certainly don't want to do them myself, other than the occasional spliff. And LSD is too risky in my humble opinion. I am not the ideal person for such a drug - I would worry that I would get a bad trip, and that very worry would probably ensure that I got a bad trip lol.
Incidentally, I think there is a huge difference between doing a crapload of drugs and picking up a guitar, and doing a crapload of drugs and then trying to program a filter in Cubase. One is based on mind and body, and can be done because the body "learns" repeated functions, the other requires a clear head. Just my opinion, btw.
As for doing what I want to do, this IS what I want to do. I always make music my way, thats the only way I can lol. But I like to think I am fairly objective and honest in my assessment of my own music. And when I compare my production of modern hardcore with people like S3rl or Kev Energy, I can see that there are things I need to improve. This is simply true - I have rested too long and it is time to step up again. I don't want to be the out of date guy lol. So it is my desire to move forward with that aspect of the music I make - the production of modern hardcore. I can knock out a quality old skool track with almost no effort. I can make d'n'b and glitchy edited crazy stuff if I feel like it and when I put the time into it that it needs. But I have let some of the newer techniques in hardcore pass me by, and I want to be able to do that as well. I get a great deal of satisfaction from being able to make everything that I want to make, and while its frustrating for me right now, it will ultimately bring me a great deal of pleasure. At least, I hope it does lol!

Yeah I don't think Smoogie will complain about this track. Is good to see Styles and Re-con trying something different. Hope there is a 12" release real soon!!!!
Was definately a year for remakes of oldskool hardcore tunes.
Forgot to list Marc Smiths 2010 remix of "pump up the noise" which Brian K mentioned. Was quality the new version.
Also Gammers track Switch, such a crazy tune.

Darren Styles and Re-con remixed that?
Hard kicks instead of a bassline?
Wake me up when life starts to make sense again!
it doesn't do the original, nore gabber/hardcore any fairness. You can clearly hear they didnt put much effort into making that one, and they ruined a fairly good intro for it too
