Just having a quick look at the mixer, could it be that your mixer is stuck on the flanger effect somehow? Does it sound that way when you're playing or is it just during playback? If it's playback maybe it's to do with recording through the mic jack? My laptop distorts all sound when recording through the mic jack.

Why not record through the sound card when you get it? It's how I do it, and I never have a problem with it at all.

Don't record through the mic jack. 2 reasons: firstly it's mono, and secondly the impedance is meant for that of a mic, also having mic boost on will obviously distort the signal considerably too.

I have a similar problem but only sometimes - it's when I beatmatch two tracks, then I also get some sort of Flanger effect, but not the same as the real flanger effect on my mixer. Does anyone know what that is? It's annoying.

This is because you're matching the kicks perfectly and the frequencies are clashing causing the kicks to phase. Just lower the bass a little more on the track mixing out.

It's called phasing. I always thought it sounded good lol, but probably not on the dance floor.

Ah yeah I heard of that :) No I find it terrible, it's extremely annoying. It sounds like I would be using the flanger and completely ****ing up with it haha.
However it doesn't always happen - I guess it happens only to tracks which have very similar kicks. Thanks for the tipp :)

Do what mortis said. Phasing happens mostly easily in the bass frequencies.
