Im a budding producer currently using a Roland MC307 (Groove Box) for my Rythms and Basslines which I record into a multi track recorder from there I overdub my real time synth playing.
Im planning to update my studio but know very little on Digital Audio Workstation set ups. Its a steep learning curb when you know nothing about computers so I'm leaning preferably towards the hardware set up, as its what Ive had much more experience with.
I would like to use a Akai MPC 5000 to make a sequenced a Rythm, Samples, Bassline song and then transfer it to the Korg D3200 (multi track recorder) from there I want to overdub my keyboard playing, vocals, Sound fx, ect. Im interested to know if this is the most suitable gear for what I plan to do. Im also interested if there is any difference in sound quality as opposed to software. Hope this is'nt over peoples heads. But would really appreciate any advice from Hardcore Producers out there.
Many thanks. Ogirod (aka Digby)

this isnt very constructive, so consider it a bump...

... I'd really like to heard some traditionally made hardcore, that'd be really cool, and quite unique. I think we're all too Dependant on technology and virtual stuff nowadays.

As I'm sure you expect... If you really want your production do sound anywhere near as good as even amateurs' using computer sequencers youll need to get one too. Just the ability to use effects and edit the audio from your hardware will probably improve your sound so much.

Some people say that using hardware as oppose to software gets a warmer sound. Personally I like the crispness of the sound you get from software but that's just me. I think the best people to ask on here regarding hardware is the Inosophere boys. They're probably the people with the most experience in using hardware.

I say go for it! Some of the best electronic music was made without computers and a lot of it still kicks the arse of just about everything else.

Are you suggesting that it was made with real instruments?

I think hardware when used correctly (and the right hardware obviously) pissed on software from a great height and many agree. Many facts as to why this is. Anyway the biggest difference is not this though, it is the complacency and poor effort that the convenience of an all-software setup breeds. Software sounds good when the music doesn't suffer from bad technique.

You're definitely on the wrong forum as it will be over 99.9% of peoples heads here. Almost no one uses hardware here and even if they do it will only be with a mostly software set up. So really no one can offer you any useful advice. A setup like you described is absolutely fine, but the sound quality will depend on many things. The thing is with digital set up's is that no matter how shit they are, right from the start there is a certain level of quality (high quality), but when it comes to analogue set ups you need high quality gear to get professional sound quality.

No I didn't say anything like that. Where did you get that idea from?

There has to be some kind of computing going on somewhere for electronic music to exist.

I should also add, incompetence, this is the main one.

I'm not being pedantic, there is a very clear difference. It is either one or the other lol.

Yes but I thought it was obvious he wasn't going to make the next hardcore stormer on a pair of bongos with a violin. Do you have a hard time socialising??

It's not obvious if you say 'without computers'.

I would only say incompetence if it's a professional making clear mistakes when they should not be making them. I suppose in some degree that's down to complacency also but you can't blame amateur producers for incompetence, blame listeners for accepting it. But, that's just me being an arse
