True but these mixes are done in Sequencers! If the track is 3 BPM faster, it doesn't matter as long as it's constant :)

Yes, DJ's don't actually use any skill to beatmatch anymore, didn't you know?

I used a vinyl rip of Kai Tracid - 4just1day to do my remix of that. Also ripped the vocal for my track Rushin' Off My Bleedin' Tits from vinyl. Heaven 7 also gave out a vocal + samples on one of their vinyl releases for a remix comp. You'll be fine with vinyl mate as long as you do a good rip, I shouldn't worry.

Vinyl rips sound really good. You just need a good sound card/setup. Onboard or anything unproffesional isn't nearly good enough.

Indeed! I used an Echo Mia Midi card and just recorded through my Tech's with the quartz lock on. I did borrow my dads needles though as they're proper high end hi fi ones that are much more suited to that job.

Just make sure the records are as clean as possible too and aren't degraded.

You clearly didn't understand it... this has nothing to do with beamatching or mixing, but more with production... I won't bother explaining what the problem is, because nobody won't understand anyway.

But just some words about turntables: Every turntable, even the best one, has a wow-effect/flutter (pitch variation). The ones I have, Technics MK5, have a wow of 0.01%. I was thinking of the quartz lock aswell but afaik there is still some flutter :( Quality isn't really the problem... I have top needles, a top mixer which keeps the top quality and I always take big care of my vinyls!

Nevermind, I'll find a solution...but thanks guys ;)

"I need it for a mashup"

now it makes sense

still, you dont need to be so precise, there are other ways of doing it than just letting two songs play alongside each other for the entire duration - in fact thats exactly what you shouldnt be doing - thats lazy

the better way of doing it would just be smaller clips of the song (say, 10seconds) slightly slower/fast speeds wont go have enough time in those 10seconds to go out of time....make loops out of the song..

again the precision doesnt have to be so paramount when working with smaller clips

**Looks like Triq beat me to it. Didn't spot that haha**

Yes they do mate but for what you are trying to do it shouldn't be an issue. I have done pretty much exactly what you are trying to do before. No human can hear the fluctuation caused by a (decent & working) record deck so that isn't an issue. What you actually seem worried about though is the fact that it could be 170.0001 bpm or something but this really shouldn't be a concern. Over the course of the track you may have to split it into a few large sections and cover up the gap or overlap with clever ideas in the mashup. It may not be 100% on the beat every beat if this happens but no one will detect this. It's the same with a "perfect" mix on two turntables, it's technically impossible but you can damn well make it sound like you've done it.

I already said twice that it was for mashups ;)

And sometimes, if two tracks fit really very well, I do layer almost the whole track over it. But my mashups often consist of more than just two tracks... and I do cut everything in little pieces. Of course human ear cannot hear fluctuation when the track is playing alone, but when one tracks get out of sync then it can :)

Also, it's not 170.0001 it's more like 170.01 which is a big difference! I created this topic because I've expercienced this before and it is really a problem for me. I even have tracks which I bought digitally and which have this problem (but probably ripped from vinyl and then sold as "320k digital").

You guys should have listened to my last mix on the London Sounds Exposed show, you'd understand easier :)

But now I'm wondering...is there really flutter when quartz lock is on? Perhaps I was wrong, if so that would be the solution I guess...
