its not going to be pretty, in the end hopefully the country will be in a better posiiton. it's pretty clear that labour helped leave a bit of a mess - and although the coalition like to point fingers at them, labour were going try and do somthing about it, alot of the cuts that are going through, decomissioning of military projects and fuel duty rise were actually things that labour had planned for or put in place anyway..(too little too late perhaps, summed up nicely by the letter Labour's Liam Byrne left)
i think most people see that we need to make a change....but most people are also nimbys...

erm.... most of the Cabinet have taken a pay cut.
also, being an MP is a little different than a fry cook, none of them expect you to work for NMW, they expect you to work hard at school and get a better job.

Cant see how many people can complain at this budget given the state that the country is in.
- Cut in fuel price, cut the tie between fuel price and inflation, and a fuel stabilizer.
- No increase in the price of alcohol.
- 250,000 more apprenticeships.
- 11(?) new technical colleges to be built.
- Pay rise for nurses, soldiers, prison workers etc earning under 21k.
- Income tax threshold raised by 600 quid a year to 8,100 with a view to getting it upto 10,000 a year before you pay income tax and therefore taking over a million people out of the tax system all together.
- Simplified tax system (this was badly needed, the tax office are seriously over-worked, hence so many mistakes with them)
- Lots of incentives for new businesses starting up in the UK.
- Introduction of 'Leave 10% of your estate to charity upon death and the government will reduce your inheritance tax by 10%' So the government gains nothing extra, the inheritor loses nothing extra, but the charity gains.
Couple of other things:
- Also looking into the 50p tax rate for high earners which I think should be scrapped anyway and I think it will be scrapped next year. Its just penalising people for being successful and I really dont agree with the take from the rich to help the poor ethos (and before anyone says anything, Im from a very working class family up north).
- Cigarette and tobacco duty only up 2%, I presonally would have put this up further.
But then Im a self confessed Tory party supporter. But all in all, I dont see how we could have got a better budger considering the financial state of the country.
Oh also, MPs earn 65k a year (far less than the people who run banks or businesses. Some sales reps even earn more than this), and the prime minister only earns in a year what some professional footballers earn in a week (about 150k). 65k a year to pretty much be in charge of a constituency and run a country isnt exactly huge money, especially considering most of them are damn clever people with degrees from top universities and could probably earn more money doing other jobs, like being solicitors for example.

what you earn is one thing...perks are quite another..
not gonna say much because personally I don't think we should have a government at all and I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't be happy to hear that but either way I'm not the biggest fan of the UK full stop so I'd rather keep quiet and bugger off asap

I thought this was a very, very reasonable budget given the circumstances. The recovery isn't going to be pretty at all, but Osbourne has managed to put over a budget which manages to avoid shafting groups of people with big tax rises, so all credit to him for that.
In particular, I'm very happy to see the tax system getting simplified with the abolition of certain tax credits, and I'm happy with the consultation to merge NI and income tax into a single tax. Many people forget about NI, and when they begin to notice 31% of their income being siphoned off at source, they might start to question the government a bit more which can only be a good thing.
Osbourne has impressed me with this budget, and I'm quite satisfied with this government so far.
