I don't think their too fuzzed about the jailbait thing, not like Japan anyway. Age of consent is something like 13 there, but in reality its 19. Their also pretty conservative considering age differences and all sex related stuff. Though what i've read its changing rather rapidly there. One night stands and all that aren't considered as a bad thing by the next generation.

yea, but that doesn't beat how swedish law sees on cartoon porn :P Basicly 90% of hentai that's legal in Japan (and Korea) are considered CP in Sweden, but that's a completely other thing.
Anyways back to topic. What's with Asians and large girl bands? They could've created 2 or 3 bands with just these girls

Hentai is a weird thing though, as far as legislations go. In US they just say a character is older and *bam* its legal. Funny thing is, many stores here didn't know about hentai (in the VHS era), so they usually displayed Urotsukidoji next to Snow White :P

Some are there for the pretty looks or just "stock" material. Most pop artists have background singers and dancers, in these groups they just play a more "public" role. But it does have its benefits. E.g. in this case (AS), those wouldnt have the same effect if there were just 2-3 people on stage (incidentally their the "intro songs" to the ones i posted earlier):

I like them... I never got past a music video of them in a school (don't remember the song). Not that I don't like them, just didn't look into it more.
And they did make two or three bands with these girls. Sub-units, right?

Yea i think sub-unit is the term they use. Personally i never really gave it (Orange Caramel) a second listen (hadn't heard the one you posted before though). Its just too damn cheerful for me. Like super happy, kinda what eventually turned me off of Japanese Pop. I still listen Rurutia and the like, but the ones like Ai Otsuka (think i even have 2 of her albums). Its kinda good, but theres severe risk of getting a sugar overdose.
