So we believe.
There is evidence of settlement in the Indian Peninsula dating back to 80000 years ago. Which pretty much beats everything else so far.

However many years ago it was and whatever part of the world it was, I think it's fair to say that some of us are yet to evolve beyond the most basic form of intellect...

My beliefs about the human beginnings are completely skeptical and based on evolution.
However, the jump from ape to human is a little radical. Why isnt there a sub human ape creature? A halfway house?? Why is it that all humans on the planet have the capacity to be about as smart as us, very very similar physical attributes, and always seem to end up living in shelter and hunting food in similar ways? Take the Amazonian forest. There are tribes that have never had contact with other humans, and have lived in their spot for thousands of years, undisturbed. They have the same appearance and capacity to learn as us, but if they havent been interacted with for so long, why are they so similar? Only difference is lifestyle. They arent more hairy, stooped in posture and have hands for feet, they're like us. Why is that? How can all humans evolve exactly the same? I dont me lifestyle, but genetic changes. There are small differences like height, skin colour and stuff, but apart from those small factors, nothings changed. Apes seem to have stopped volving, but humans have not, despite living in communities as apes once did in the same habitat... Why is there such a gap between humans and apes? The gap between any land based mammal, eg a cat, and a whale, is filled with seals and stuff. Semi amphibious mamals with fur and mammal anatomy but features that make it suitable for the water.
Anyone get where I'm coming from?

Sounds like you're baked, Olly.
Anyway, human evolution has taken a while. There are many halfway houses, they just don't currently exist:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_evolution We also share common ancestors with our ape cousins, in fact chimpanzees, gorillas and orangutans share more than 95% of our DNA. The reason people in the amazon etc are almost identical to us, is that mankind has only roamed free across the globe for 10, maybe 15k years, which is a very short time in terms of evolution. If you isolated each current race or people for let's say 100-200k years, we might see bigger differences. Also, apes haven't stagnated just because they're not as smart and bloodthirsty as us :p

What Olly (acidfluxxbass) said and the question it raises makes perfect sense.
The standard scientific Darwinian answer still, more than 100 years later, fails to fully satisfy....
which leaves the currently very unfashionable and unpopular 'religious' answer waiting patiently in the wings.
In all things there is a balance.
The Truth is still out there.

Yeh, the Bible mentions them, the Mahabharata (Ancient Indian Sanskrit texts) as well as many others.
Here's a Biblical example but there are better ones - http://www.angelfire.com/mi/dinosaurs/aliens.html and two Mahabharata refs:- http://www.ufoevidence.org/documents/doc114.htm http://www.sacred-texts.com/ufo/ourpast.htm ....there's loads of stuff but beware, the overly imaginative take them out of context or exaggerate them to prove a point. :/

sorry.. :P
I think were stupid to believe we are the only lifeforms out there. Just because we haven't found them yet, doesn't mean they're not there...or ever have been

If you dont feel comfortable with aliens probing you, I'm sure theres alternate ways of getting probed that you maybe feel more comfortable with (or as result of)

Dude, do you have any idea how retarded that sounds?
I haven't put much research into the topic simply because it doesn't really interest me, but if in truth there isn't physical evidence of previous species of 'human' then that is a sort of really big problem.

Serious question, why do you think that?
There is certainly more than one mathematician who categorically believe the only possible evidence of evolution (at least in this galaxy if not the universe) is right here on planet earth.

Did you even click the link I added? They've found skeletal remains of several earlier members of the Homo genus, like Homo erectus, Homo neanderthalensis, Homo habilis, etc.
I may have used dodgy phrasing; when I said they don't currently exist, I mean they are extinct, but the skeletals remains obviously exist.
