Very much weakened before it gets here but the media will do it's best to cause widespread panic. BREAKING NEWS! Today, in winds of over 15mph, some plants got blown over and an old lady lost her hat...

how often is it that y'all get hit by hurricanes and tropical storms? seems rather unusual as most hurricanes travel west on the atlantic

we usually get the tail end of them because most have just blown themselves out by the time they reach us
they're forcasting "Strong Winds" but nothing out of the norm

Katia will most likely be a Tropical Storm when it hits us on Monday. If it hits us at all as a hurricane, it will be borderline. Either way, even Tropical Storms cause havoc, and I myself cant wait to see what the media makes of it.

yea tropical storms can be just as bad. the winds will not be the ones doing the damage but it's the possibility of flooding that you will have to worry about.
we had one here in houston 10 yrs ago and when it got to us it pretty much sat on top of us while it fell apart, causing almost nonstop rain for 3 days.

I still know the pictures of Hurricane Mitch in 1998. Some alpine regions in Central America were faced with two weeks of continous heavy rain. Honduras and Guatemala were thrown back in times to world war 2.
There was a great donation aid CD-release of DJs running under the name "United Deejays For Central America".
