So i said i'd make an update after i started my job.
Finished my first week this week. sort of sussed out what's going on. My probation rate is AUS$18/hour which ends up to about $35K a year. But i'm only on that for a few months, then it jumps up to 20/hour which is 40K/year. But i'm also only on that for a few months til i finish the store management training where it'll jump up to about 45K a year. Well in!
Best part is that i do a 38 hour week but the owner doesn't count the time i take for lunch as time off, so 930-530 with an hour for lunch is still 8 hours of the 38. So it ends up more like i do three 8 hour days and two 7 hour days a week. Again, well in! Get all the usual perks like sick days and annual leave (4 weeks paid) and i get to wear jeans to work. ****in love this job.
On the downside, getting 700/week is bad for my health. I should not be allowed a debit card as i'm spending like no tomorrow. New bed, 42 inch LED tvs, new furniture, new clothes, new phone. It's bad man!
Anyway that's my update on the job. Enjoying it so far but only one week in - we'll see how the second week goes.
As for the FAO - jay can you recommend me some good books? Fiction, and preferably a series?

You're making more then me in my crappy retail job, and I'm only going in debt thanks to college. Anyway, congrats on the job and hopefully all goes well.
And that is the curse of the debit card. It takes a lot of self responsibility to make sure you don't spend so much. Unlike cash you don't see it physically withering away in front of you. Gotta stay on top of it and manage your expenses like crazy with a debit card. Depending which bank you have you can even send texts to see how much you have in the bank, or get an app on your phone for it, etc. etc. Hopefully that helps.

I got ****ing forcefully switched to bi-weekly payroll, so now I'm making less because I get more taken out of each check with taxes.

man that really sucks. i'm kind of glad that i get paid weekly. i'm also glad that i work on commission and work only part time, as my average hourly wage is way higher than the full timers. but sucks that 300-400 paychecks won't help me get a place of my own. and now that my wages are being garnished, they won't get any higher than that until the christmas season.

So you're a salesman? I couldn't work on commission, I don't think I'd be a very good salesman. Don't get me wrong, I'm a smart ass, and I can call up ******** on the spot. But I'd be too truthful, I'd tell them the most expensive one is complete shit and go for the cheaper and better quality.

honestly being honest w/ the customer works better than trying to get them to buy expensive shit just to get a bigger commission, unless the expensive item really is worth it. i don't asskiss or tell fake compliments to the customers, because that's how you get big returns.

Hmm, I'd probably be a better salesman then I think. But, honestly, it all depends what I'm selling.
