Seriously, I was talking to some friends at a rave and then a low-pass filter got used and I immediately broke off and ran to the speakers. Anyone else have this weakness?
This is probably why I love Hardcore Power so much and pretty much all of French Touch (mostly The Phantom's Revenge, who abuses it constantly but I can't help but love it).
Or in the more conservative usage (breakdown starts 2:17):
So have any of you guys found effective use of low-pass filters in other genres?

I couldn't ID the low-pass filter in the first one, there was all sorts of weird shit in there.
The second one sounded more like a generally heavy pad than a filter.
I can;t think of any effective use of low-pass filter, but I will almost always implement a high-pass filter on pretty much everything except toms and kick drum when mucking around with a band.
Personally, I think low pass filters sound shit. Absolutely no reason for someone to want nothing but mud to come through the speakers.

There's loads of good reasons to use them from filtering in leads in a build up to creating a pad that gradually opens up into the high end when you hold a note down.
I think most sounds I make or use probably hit a low pass filter somewhere in the chain either on the synth itself or on an EQ or dedicated filter.
Odd topic though IMO. :P
