Unless you happen to be a fan of it. And many are, to the extent that there is entire genres based around it. The problem is not the music, the problem is playing it to a crowd that doesn't appreciate it. It's quite obvious that anyone going to see DJ Sammy is probably going to be expecting Clubland stuff.

Actually, in commercial raves that's the main idea, but tracks usually are not constant minimal. Besides minimal parts, there are also breakdowns, builds and stuff.

I have to say i really started to go off hardcore after about 97-98. It became very commercial and cheesy! In my eyes anything from 90-96 early 97 was the best. Some of the old tunes just make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and bring all the raves flooding back!

I didn't originaly like anything after 99 at time the time apart from a couple of tunes but once i adjusted to the fact that it's just different i liked it almost as much and still like it almost as much. Only up to 2005 though.

Thought id post on here
I think its a good movement, Hardcore has been the same for the past 10years!! People get bored of something that stays the same for so long. Iv seen so many post over the past few years about hardcore not changing and going stale bla bla!! But now its changing people are moaning, i cant understand why? As a producer we try to do things different and try to make Hardcore more interesting and new.
I love the new sound, we still have boys like sy,recon, hixxy ect making feel good tracks its just we now have a new element to the scene.

Its still the same to me! A lot of good stuff out there and a lot of shite! But it was like that 20 years ago anyway, the music itself is less popular again with tha masses (it always does) but will bounce back again (it always does) Dance music on a whole is so diluted these days, nobody knows what genre a track is pigeon holed from anyway! Everybody is trying everything to be the"new" sound, and everybody is failing!(and I'm not just on about hardcore music) It all sounds like a mish mash of styles trying to be the "in thing"!

Exactly!
Change is good, nobody is disputing that - but if that change is just copying whichever style is doing well it's not right. Because the music becomes more about what sells than and what the artists feel they NEED to produce than what they WANT to produce. I'll be glad when a bit more genuine originality comes back and the music goes back to more than copying everybody else. Less irritating copycat nonsense please!

hardcore should sound how the producer wants it to sound not what everyone else wants it to sound like if people like it then they like it if they don't...**** em like my tracks i personally cudnt give a shit if people don't like mine at least i'm making mine the way i want not the way everyone else wants n thats what all music should be like...in time this "shitcore" as i like to call it will dissapear (hopefully) and the individuality will come back (hopefully) imho hardcore shudnt b made for the masses thats why ther is pop music but nowadays the music industry is all about money imo and thats just wrong

Electronic music and "2nd half of 20th century" plus modern music in general has been living and progressing for a very long time now. Its getting harder and harder to be original and not to turn out to be copying someone.
However, it indeed is that most of the producers are just trying to be "in".

Hardcore is just a genre-group like every other. There are no separate rules for it. You could say the same thing for House or Trance. But I agree with ur opinion, Dopey, in area of every single genre.
EDIT: Popular music artists used to play, sing or produce passionately in the early days, including the beginning of modern music in 20th century. And nowadays all u have is a young 18-20 yo person who used to be passionate and got into showbusiness because of it, but over time stress becomes bigger and the passion shrinks smaller so they figure out they made the wrong choice (but they can't give up because, by the contract, that would make them obligated to return all the money they earned, and regarding the fact that they spent money for living, that could get them to priso because of a large debt).

I'll admit - in the world of hardcore, I'm pretty much an infant, as I've only been around/payed attention to it for the past year.
I really only know the big names, Gammer, Darwin, S3rl, etc. I know where to look for bread and butter stuff, and at current, I'm not very apt and breaking down subgenres and types of hardcore.
To me, there's high energy hardcore, low energy hardcore, cheesy hardcore, and absolute **** hardcore.
Call me an idiot, but I enjoyed DS & Gammer - You & I, I enjoyed S3rl - Pika Girl, I enjoyed all of it.
I do agree on one point - minimal drops. I hate them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnxmY53V9jw[/y This song has been one of the biggest disappointments to me of all time. I actually ruined one of my mixes just by including this song. If you start listening at around 0:32, you hear a breakbeat, you hear an FX leading up to the drop, all that good stuff, then- a simple four beat. What was also amazing was that this made it onto Clubland Xtreme 7. Really, the only stuff I dislike is low energy, like Al Storm - Werewolf http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qh69e0v-eos It just sounds like there wasn't much effort put into it, and I can't groove to it. My favorite songs are the upbeat, uplifting, cheesy high energy stuff. Thats actually why my current favorite song is Sc@r - Starts Again, it's uplifting while having minor blocks on the song, which makes it quite an ironic sounding tune.

I really don't inderstand why so many people are unhappy about this new sound in hardcore. Everyone was complaining about hardcore being stale. Now they are trying some great new things and people still moan.
I've always found freeform to be unpredictable, and at some time slow, to get into.
