With just a week to go until I Love Hard Beats touches down in Vauxhall, London we caught up with two rising stars of the underground hard dance scene and Sinistry head honchos: Jester and Kohl!

We're delighted to have you down to headline Room 2 at I Love Hard Beats but for those who don't know, what can we expect to hear from you?

J - We're absolutely chuffed to have been asked to play! We're usually known for playing Hardstyle but for I Love Hard Beats we've got the chance to break out some dark Hard Dance! There'll be some Euro HT, Industrial, UK Hard Dance and maybe even some Metal! It's pretty much anything goes as both of us have a pretty diverse love of music.

K - Thanks for having us, we've been looking forward to it since we were asked. As Jester mentioned we are influenced by so many styles and both of us have come from our metal/alternative roots so expect something different from us but no less hard and stomping!

How would you describe yourself using the Japenese poetry discipline of Haiku (5 syllables, 7 syllables, 5 syllables)? e.g.

oh! lonely mollusc

sidewalking, hiding in shells

crabs are people too

J -

Two DJs Of Height,

Play Filthy Nasty Hard Dance,

Make Ravers Stomp Hard?

K -

Two Sinful DJs,

In boots and armed with hard beats,

Remixed and Ready!

You guys are quickly making names for yourselves in the UK Hard Dance scene but what started your adventures in underground music and when did your partnership begin?

J - I've been raving since I was 17 when I would blag my way into Peach and Frantic! I've always loved the Trance and Hard Trance sounds and thought that couldn't match the euphoria with any other type of music. Then I discovered Hardstyle! Zany played at Tidy Weekender 12 and my love of Hardstyle has grown from there. It was around the same time that I met Kohl at a rave at SEOne and we kept in touch. I would take my decks and tunes round to his house for a mix. We kept saying that we wanted to do an event that showcased the Harder side of dance music, as events around that time had started to feel a bit stale. So in 2008 we ran our first Sinistry and it's grown from there!

K - I'd enjoyed dance music early on and took a detour to hard dance in my teens from rock/metal via industrial/ebm with its hard beats, mechanical soundsets, distorted vocals and harsh synth lines, regularly frequenting London's industrial/goth clubs but eventually discovered Lab 4 and eventually caught them at Slinky in Bournemouth, which as you can imagine blew my mind!. Through them I discovered two lesser known DJs you may have heard of YOJI and PROTEUS. How could you not be inspired by any of them?. After regular clubbing in and out of London I bumped into Jester at SEOne and after some inspiring sessions on his decks, which helped me get my first taste of DJing and regular contact discussing the potential in putting on our own events, SINISTRY was born.

Your Halloween event last year was one of the most enjoyable nights we can remember in recent years, what's the general ethos behind the Sinistry events?

J - We love all kinds of Hard music so we always try to put on events that showcase a range of music throughout the night. Some people have gone very narrow-minded in recent times and have tried to separate UK Hard Trance/Hard House from the European sounds. To us it's all Hard Dance and we know a lot of ravers out there feel the same. You used to see people like Yoji getting booked by Frantic & playing Showtek records and nobody complained about him playing Hardstyle! We're also big fans of the Freeform & FinRG sounds and taking on a 2nd room has allowed us to showcase these sounds to ravers who may not normally hear them.

K - Thanks. We really wanted to put on the best Halloween party we could for our first solo party in London and Halloween goes hand in hand with what Sinistry is all about. The darker and harder styles!. We've wanted to do more than Just put on a single styled night, we've wanted to give our sinners an experience. Themes and visuals are equally important to us as the DJs, as we really want to immerse the crowd in a special atmosphere and have the best night possible!

And what has Sinistry got in store for all the sinners in 2012?

J - Our next event will be on Friday 4th May @ The Lightbox. We've got an international Headliner in both rooms and we've also got a couple of London exclusives. Keep an eye on the Sinistry page for the event announcement which will be on Sunday 5th Feb. The ravers at I Love Hard Beats will see the posters and flyers up around the venue first though!

K - As soon as the dust settled on our Halloween party in 2011, we couldn't help think about trying to top it and our following May party we'll be knuckling down to try and put on something incredible for our next instalment!

Who was rocking it for you in 2011 and who will you be keeping tabs on this year?

J - Hard Dance wise, it has to be Phil Reynolds. Phil still amazes me at how good he actually is behind the decks and his b2b with Kevin Energy at Frantic's Birthday at Koko was nothing short of sensational! For Hardstyle, I would say 2011 belonged to Zatox. But less well-known Producers like Arkaine, Adaro, Vortex & Impakt and Jajox also had amazing releases that went under the radar! Freeform-wise it had to be Kevin Energy in his final year Djing! What a performer and someone who will be thoroughly missed! As for 2012, watch out for Costa Pantazis to continue to go from strength-to-strength in Hard Dance, in Hardstyle check ou tJajox and Jack Of Sound, and in Freeform it's got to be Substanced and of course the rise of the Hard Beats Collective! So much good music (of all genres!) to look forward to!

K - 2011 was a great year for hard dance and it began with us starting it playing at Frantic NYD and two absolute nutcases, MARK EG and PROTEUS went b2b and put on one incredible show and started the year with a bang. Last year showcased a lot of the harder edged hard trance by the likes of Louk, Danny V, DJ W and Nomad, who's releases have had my hard dance case bursting at the seams. As for Hardstyle, I'd have to agree with Jester and add Delete, Vazard and R3belz, who've been putting out some absolutely disgusting tracks!.

A special mention has to go to Kevin Energy and for a very fitting end to his last year in the scene and we felt very privileged to share the stage with him as he played his last London sets. NEC and Freeformation may have left a hole but Hard Beats Collective have filled the space and can't wait to see what the future has in store for them. 2012 is looking very bright and there are there just too many artists to mention on all sides of the hard dance scene.

If the freeform fox came to visit, what would you give him for his tea?

J - Jam & eggs, with a side of pigeon (sorry Jay!)

K - A cup, saucer, milk, hot water, tea pot and a biscuit tin

Quick fire round!

What kind of biscuit would you most like to have upon your person in an emergency?

J - Oreo, the all-purpose biscuit!

K - Hobnobs. The marine of biscuits!

Wise choices. Favourite section of the Bayeux Tapestry?

J - The part with the ninjas!

K - The boat party

William of Normandy's boat party arrives on Pevensey Beach. Track playing: 'The Dawn' by Tony de Vit.

If you were a super hero, what colour would your pants be?

J - Black, to hide the stains.

K - Pinstriped black and white.

Penguins, what's the deal with them?

J - I know, right?! You get a yummy bar of chocolate AND an incredible joke! Amazing!

K - I've heard they don't like dance music. They only like sole

If 6am is Tuesday-Thursday, how many hours 'til it is Friday-Monday?

J - 17 + Sunday?

K - Too many!

Incorrect, the answer is 18 days. Who is currently number one in the pop music charts for Bees?

J - The Bee Gees? Sting?

K - Bee-yonce?

Close but the answer I have here is Queen. Puns, are they a positive force for good or a danger to our civilised society? In other words, are you pro-pun or foe-pun?

J - I think Puns are a Punderful thing! (Sorry....)

K - Good and sometimes very Punny

Have you recently taken out a loan and been mis-sold payment protection insurance?

J - I didn't think I had until the nice automated lady called my house phone and told me that I was due some money! I sent my bank details across and I am now waiting to receive monies from the national bank of Uganda!

K - Oh no.

Want to buy an A-Reg Vauxhall Astra? 100 ono

K - You must bee kidding! Sounds too good to be true!

J - Tell you what, I'll swap it for a penguin.

Done!
