I am so disappointed in some of the full length release if there's been a preview or album version of it beforehand. Some of them sound watered down, some drier, some less energetic, etc.

Some examples include Baby I'll Let You Know, love the CXH4 version but the released version feels so flat, Sora Blue had this awesome lead sound on the preview clip but the released version's lead is very dry, Falling From the Sky on CXH8 is a favourite on that album and the full version.. I don't get the same feeling there either.

Why do you think this happens sometimes? I know albums and tracks get different masters but it shouldn't vary that much, should it?

The previews might get overdriven by the automated clip-making scripts on TrackItDown and the like. This almost always results in a "warmer" sound - in some cases it might be beneficial to leads and other complex textures, while making the whole track messy and otherwise unplayable. Recent Hixxy's tracks sound heavily overcompressed (even more than the current dance music "standard") anyway, so this effect might just be more apparent in his case.

EDIT: The same thing might apply to albums, as there's extra processing (= more compression/overdrive) added on top of the entire mix.

I believe the different versions of the masters do play a big role. That and the pitch it's played at in the mix. The most natural thing is for tracks to be played at a higher speed which alters the tempo which then alters the key it's in (different keys = different moods [...to some ears at least]). This is all assuming dj's still play on turntables! (Long live the ol' skool!) ;D

Because CDJs and controllers don't have pitch controls or anything like that.

No. Simply because you can't lock the tempo nor the key on vinyl.

Ohhhh ok. Yeah, I hate key lock too but luckily I can't think of anyone who actually uses it.

Torpex got it in one. A notch or two of compression always makes things sound a little bit better/livelier/warmer.

That all could play a big role, of course. I had the pitch up in mind when I wrote the post but for some of the tunes it feels like there's something else missing. Brisks mixes usually range around 178-182 bpm and his full length versions are 170-175 and the only difference I feel there is the speed - never been disappointed in one of those full length versions, tbh.. on Next Gen/BB.. even if they're slower!

CXH4 was poorly mastered, but some tracks sounded better with this (although you wouldn't want to play it out live). Sora Blue lead has been redone for the release because Hixxy said people told him without this change it didn't sound as good when playing out, although I agree the preview version was better (he told me he won't release it though).

So I don't like to only bring disappointing news, so: there is a followup to "Sora Blue" coming from Hixxy.
