hi guys,
For those of you who remember the vinyl days, you might enjoy this interview I've just done with Jay Burgess (aka Equinox) about his days running Elite Records in Victoria, which back in the late 90's/early 00's was one of London's best stores for all kinds of hard dance, from freeform to happy hardcore to hard house/hard trance and on. If you were ever a vinyl junkie, it will bring back lots of nice memories, and if you've only got into dance music in the digital era, it's yer actual living history about a time and place that might as well be as remote as Stonehenge these days!
If you're interested, check it out here.
quote: What was the weirdest thing to ever happen in the shop?
One of the best was when a guy came running in one day, says, "Alright guys how's things? Can I grab one of your plastic bags? Gotta shoot, see ya later!"
We were going through some orders on the phone so we didn't really take much notice of him coming in as it was so quick, however a couple of minutes later the shop had police outside and people were like "He went in there". The place was searched and we were confused thinking really no one's been in ... anyway, he'd only gone and robbed the bank!

I'm still 100% vinyl, but then again I just play old stuff, so it's easy for me ;)

so. Vinyl does have a charm to it, but music is still just a sound. Why should it matter on what format it's on? It's like saying you prefer VHS/Betamax to Blu-ray :D

Well, obviously it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, it's just an aesthetic preference

Having said that, there were things that were/are good about the record shopping experience, particularly the social side, that are missed out on if you're just sitting in front of your computer listening to clips on Beatport or wherever.

I miss going to record shops and browsing through the tunes as much as i miss vinyl itself.
Still have tons of the stuff and no means to play it!

ofcourse there's the social bit. You get out and look for new stuff. But since I'm fairly long (I started buying music in 96/97), I never really found vinyls where I shopped. And closest to Hardcore I could get in Sweden was Scooter :P
