Its not entirely difficult. Once the concept of it clicks, you'll be fine. Key is beat matching, matching the tempo's and moving out of one track and into another nicely. Beat matching is simply getting both the kicks on both tracks matched up. Tempo keeps them matched up. Most UKH is nicely arranged with 8 bars of intro sections. Just to flick the switches as one set of bars finishes and another set start on the other track.

er... 16 bars? Come on mate you produce.

Simple UK hardcore revolves around 16 bar phrases. Meaning, every 16 bars something major is added to, taken away, or changed every 16 bars. Learning to count bars is essential. There's 4 beats to a bar in UK hardcore (because it's in 4/4 time).

Essentially with UK hardcore, there is 16 bars in the intro section before a bassline drops. When mixing between tracks the goal is to ensure that there's basically always a bassline there. There's exceptions to this obviously, but that's usually how it goes, same with the outro. A typical hardcore mix might look like this:

Track you're mixing in:
16 bars of percussion/random sounds then the bassline drops with the kick drum.

Track you're mixing out of:
peak section (usually 32 bars) then 16 bars of kick/bass, then 16 bars without bass.

The idea is that the by the time there's no more bassline in the track you're mixing out of, the bassline from the track you're mixing in should be there. UKHardcore is pretty damn formulaic like that. Some have longer intros/outros but the principle is the same.

True DJ-ing/mixing is an artform for those of us who still use turntables. Some can do it some cant. a bit like piccaso, some can paint others cant.

I'm a bit lazy to explain everything but I'll let DJ Ravine do that for you:

Even though he's using Virtual DJ to demonstrate, the techniques shown can still be applied to mixing any UK hardcore.

i never use crossfade (-ing effects), since my style of playing is to have the beginning of the track (unless it's way to noisy) hearable. Usually it sounds good, but at some times it will sound horrible :P
I don't know how much using the proper/same basskey does to this formula, but as long as it doesn't clang I guess...

I do this because I don't use headphones. Technically I could use one of my soundcards 5.1 outputs for a headphone, but I like this style.
