At a local club there is an event called Twisted Tuesdays where we showcase all different genres of EDM. In August I'll be doing a UK hardcore set which happens to be my first gig ever. My question is should I treat it like a house set where I would keep the energy going then use a breakdown sparingly to give them a break or should I just play awesome tracks and wear them out? I have no idea how a hardcore set in a club works.

really depends on what kind of people you're playing in front of. what other genres of music are being played?

Any and all genres are being played, I'll be the opening act.

suck, though call being first. it's much easier playing after someone to get a feel of what people are enjoying. I'd say try a hodgepodge and stay away from playing vocal track after vocal track.

I think you should be safe, if you play the tracks you personally really enjoy very much. If you express your passion for these tracks, it will infect others. Good luck!

I reckon for a first set, start off with some "relaxed" breakbeat hardcore (maybe Luna C, Wizzbit/Ponder tracks)? Some stuff with a D&Bish feel to it. Something with a good intro too.

I talked to my friend and he said there aren't that many people there at the beginning so that I should just play what I like, no pressure. I'll play it by ear, thanks for the help everyone.

I saw this post on another forum, and in my opinion their feedback and replies were as helpful as you'll ever hear.
Just play what you enjoy and mix big anthems with regular popular songs.
Ham - Let The Rhythm Flow is a must :D

I don't know what the regular popular songs are though. Might help to add that I live in Arkansas so hardcore isn't exactly huge around here. I'm going to be playing a lot of Fracus, Darwin, Brisk, Ham, Arkitech, lots of 2008-2012 stuff. It's a one hour set and I'm thinking of ending with a banger like Nu Foundation - What You Say.

I think you just became one of my new favorite US Hardcore djs just for that, and I don't know shit about you lol
usually though what gets played mostly in the US are s3rl tracks, anything from Darren Styles, Breeze, pretty much the raver baby crew, and also Dougal & Gammer stuff. Usually vocal tracks. But you know you are the first opening act, I would take the opportunity to do whatever you want up there, since most of the time the mainstage djs that playing during the peak hour(s) are the ones who have to worry the most about making sure the crowd stays interested from beginning to end.
